Guidelines for Authors

  1. Authors are required to submit two copies of their manuscripts, clearly typed on one side only with double spacing, and with 1.5” margin on all sides, on A4 size paper (8.5” x 11”).
  2. The manuscript should be in MS-Word format (Doc format), with a font size of 12 points and an Arial font style.
  3. Authors are also required to submit an electronic copy of the paper in MS-Word format (Doc format) on a CD-ROM as well as via e-mail to the sdmimdjournal@sdmimd.ac.in.
  4. The hard copy and the soft copy must be identical in all respects. In the event of any differences, the soft copy will be considered to be the final and authentic version.
  5. The cover page should contain the title of the manuscript, the author’s name and affiliation, mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail ID, and the date of last revision. In the case of multiple authors, the name and address of the author to whom the communication is to be sent must be clearly mentioned. In the absence of this information, all communication will be addressed to the first author. This page will be removed before the manuscript is forwarded to a referee.
  6. The first page of the text should contain only the title. That is, the author’s name should not be mentioned.
  7. Manuscripts should be approximately 3,000 words in length. The recommended range is 2,000 – 4,000 words.
  8. Every manuscript should include an abstract of 100-200 words in length.
  9. The article should conclude with a non-technical summary. Lengthy mathematical proofs and very extensive tables should be placed in an appendix or else omitted entirely.
  10. Footnotes in the text must be numbered consecutively and typed double spaced on a separate page, following the reference section. Footnotes to tables must also be double spaced and typed at the bottom of the table
  11. Tables must be numbered consecutively with Roman numerals, and each table should be typed on a separate page. The text should contain at least one reference to each table. The title of the table and the column headings must be clear and precise.
  12. Figures must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. The text should contain at least one reference to each table. The caption must be clear and precise.
  13. All equations must be typed on a separate line and centred. They must be numbered consecutively on the right margin, using Arabic numerals in parentheses.
  14. References must be typed on a separate page with double spacing and should be included at the end of the paper.

Citations should mention the name(s) of the author(s), title of the article or book, name of the journal, details of the publishers, year and month of publication, and individual page numbers as appropriate. Here are a few examples of the prescribed style of citation

  1. Authors using questionnaires for collection of data should send a copy of the questionnaire along with the article.
  1. All figures must be mentioned in millions and billions. That is, usage of words like lakhs and crores should be avoided. Figures below 10 should be spelt out in words.
  2. The journal follows British spelling (e.g. organisation, programme and labour) except in the case of direct quotations. The authors should use single quotation marks. Double quotes should be reserved for words within a quotation. All quotations must be reproduced verbatim without any change in spellings.  Capitalization should be kept to a minimum and applied consistently.
  3. A period (.) should be used in the case of abbreviations (Vol.), but not in contractions (Dr). All acronyms should be spelt out on first occurrence. Periods should not be used in the case of capitals (it should be USA and not U.S.A.).
  4. Authors must submit a declaration stating that the manuscript is the original work of the author(s), and that it has not been published earlier nor submitted elsewhere for publication. If the article has appeared elsewhere as a different version, the authors are required to submit a copy of the same. If the article or its earlier versions has been posted on a website, the authors should mention the relevant details in a covering letter.

The authors are required to cede the copyright of the article as finally published to the SDMIMD Journal, if it is accepted for publication. They are also required to submit a declaration that all copyright requirements in respect of material used directly or indirectly in the article have been met.

Copyright of published articles will rest with the SDMIMD Journal, for its use and dissemination in any form or medium, individually or in any collection or other configuration, print, audio-video, electronic or otherwise.

The SDMIMD Journal grants automatic permission to authors for using the material contained in the article in any books or other publications authored or co-authored by them, or edited or co-edited by them. All other usage will be subject to the prior written permission of the Editor of the SDMIMD Journal. Neither SDMIMD nor the SDMIMD Journal accepts any responsibility for the views expressed or materials used by the author(s).

  1. The editors reserve the right to accept or refuse an article for publication, without assigning any reasons for their decisions.
  2. Authors will receive two complimentary copies of the Journal issue in which their articles are published; they will also receive ten reprints of their articles for their personal use. Authors may seek additional copies or reprints, and the same shall be provided on payment of the prescribed charges.
  3. The Journal will aim to publish one or more book reviews every issue. The book reviews will normally be commissioned by the editors. Unsolicited reviews are however acceptable.
