"Every parting is a form of death,
as every reunion is a type of heaven..."

- Tryon Edwards

Pratigam, the Annual Alumni Reunion of SDMIMD was celebrated with much fanfare and enthusiasm, on the 19th & 20th December 2009. The home-coming of our Alumni was something; all SDMites were looking forward to. Over 100 ex-students took time off their busy schedules to savour the feeling of nostalgia, immersing themselves in the sweet memories of their Alma Mater.

The event was inaugurated by the Director, Prof. Ramesh Venkateshwaran, joined by Mr. Arun Padaki, President of the Alumni Association and Ms. Susheema, Secretary of Alumni Association. The video on "Life at SDMIMD", showcasing the myriad academic and cultural events being conducted in the campus, was welcomed by the Alumni, cheering every bit of it. The evolution of the Institute was beautifully portrayed and received accolades from the audience, as it took them down the memory lane. . Mr. Arun stressed on strengthening the alumni base by means of frequent meets involving meaningful dialogue, which would benefit both the Alumni and the Institute. The Alumni met the members of the Faculty, who were elated to see their students holding successful positions.

It was followed by a cultural extravaganza in the amphitheatre, beautifully decorated to add to the glamour quotient. Skits, peppy Bollywood songs and group dance performances captivated the audience. The group dance by second year students, involving a medley of old Bollywood numbers was the best performance of the evening and received a standing ovation. The Alumni soon got into action with a skit by one of the best known groups while in college. It was very entertaining and everyone was grateful and awed by the fact that being apart in distance, they took the pain of co-ordinating and performing a beautiful skit. The "Mr. Alumnus & Ms. Alumna" event that followed added excitement to the event. Interesting questions were thrown at them, ranging from their professional lives to their stay at SDMIMD. The day ended with a "DJ nite", which allowed them to tap their feet. This was preceded by an open-air buffet dinner which served delectable cuisine.

The second day of the event started at the auditorium, with the track session providing a platform for interaction between the Alumni and the students. The Alumni gave them insights into the corporate world and answered queries pertaining to specialization, career prospects in specific sectors and key skills sought by the Corporate. It was heartening to note the active and enthusiastic participation of the Alumni. The Valedictory address included a vote of thanks from the Alumni Networking Team of SDMIMD (A. N. T. S.). Souvenirs were presented to the Alumni.

The two day event concluded with fun-filled sports like cricket, basketball and table tennis between the alumni and students.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever; so are beautiful memories... The Alumni left with fond memories and a sense of parting, again...with also a resolve to come again next year. There are, indeed, some beautiful things in life that never change...
