Convergence 3i – The Industry Institute Interface

SDMIMD in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) hosted Convergence 3i - the Industry Institute Interaction meet on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at SDMIMD campus. The meet provided platform for interaction between selected industries in Mysore with the students of Engineering & Management Colleges and SDMites. Mr. S.N. Rao, Managing Director, Supreme Pharmaceuticals (Mysore) Pvt. Ltd., inaugurated the meet and stressed on the knowledge about the fundamental concepts. Prof. S.N. Prasad, Chairman - Admissions, SDMIMD opined that Convergence 3i is a forum for active discussions between the student community and the industry executives. The students had a chance to have glimpse of the Products and Services of the participating companies - Infosys, Automotive Axles Ltd., Software Paradigms (India) Ltd., Jubilant Sciences Ltd., Rane (Madras) Ltd. and others. Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, welcomed the gathering and Mr. K.S. Sundar, CII Executive Officer presented the vote of thanks.

SDMites at Texas A&M and Shanghai University

As in the previous years, selected students from the second year PGDM are permitted to undergo a full term in a foreign university, as a part of the student exchange arrangement that our Institute has with them. Accordingly, Mr. Karan Prakash Dave, Mr. Rahul M K, Ms. Rakhi Laddar and Ms. Vismaya Mysore Naganna have gone over to Mays Business School, Texas A & M University, and Mr. Nijo John, Mr. Jacob Thomas and Mr. Ashiq N K will be spending a term in Shanghai University, China

Harvard Corner @ SDMIMD Library

SDMIMD library is supporting, stimulating and serving the academic and research activities among SDMites. In this effort and having understood that books are the original sources of inspiring creativity and innovation in the world, SDMIMD library has set-up a Harvard Corner comprising popular and influential business titles published by the Harvard Business School. The collection also comprises of resources, case studies and videos. The collection is equipped with 973 titles and 996 volumes that will continue to grow in the future.

SDMites won prize in the Paper writing competition

Two students from PGDM 2012-2014 batch Ms. Shilpa S Menon & Mr. Nadeer Muhammed S presented a paper titled 'Sustainable competitive strategies through social media in hospitality industry' and won second prize in the Paper writing competition "Envision 2012" conducted by XIM- Bhubaneswar.

Strategies for Brand building of Cement

The talk on “Strategies for Brand building of Cement – The UltraTech Way” by Dr. M. R. Kalgal, Senior Vice President & Head of Technical Services at UltraTech Cement Ltd, on September 1, 2012 at the SDMIMD Auditorium introduced the strategies in action at Ultra Tech toward brand building. The talk was followed by interactive session with the students.

Talk on 'The Role of HR: the Business Partner'

Mr. S.R. Manjunath, Senior Director - HR, NetApp India Pvt Ltd, was invited to address the SDMites on August 31, 2012. Mr. Manjunath addressed the students on the topic “The Role of HR: the Business Partner”. Ms. Amulya Kulkarni, Head of PR, Opptunity, NetApp India Pvt. Ltd and the alumnus of PGDM 2010-12 introduced the profile of NetApp.

Talk on Export-Import Procedure & Documentation

Mr. T.H. Venkatesh, General Manager Exports at JK Tyre & Industries Ltd., was the invitee to talk on “Export-Import Procedure & Documentation” on August 27, 2012. He widely brought out data related to the topic and enlightened management students to hone their skills in International Business. The talk also covered Government regulatory bodies in international trade. The talk highlighted the procedure of Bill of Lading especially with reference to India and China.

Leadership Development and Strategies

On August 25, 2012 Mr. Rajat Chaturvedi, Head – HR, Café Coffee Day (Vending Machines), delivered the invited talk on “Leadership Development and Strategies” at SDMIMD Auditorium.

Ms. Annapurna A, AGM, Human Resources, Essilor India Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, addressed the student community on “How to select your specialization” on Saturday, August 25, 2012.

Doctoral Research Program at SDMIMD

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Research Center for Management Studies (SDM RCMS), the research unit of SDMIMD has been recognized as Doctoral Research Center by the Tumkur University, Karnataka. The center extends professional guidance and assistance to the research aspirants in the area of Management Studies and the successful research works will be awarded the doctoral degree by the Tumkur University. Detailed rules for the purpose are under formulation.
