Countries with well-trained data scientists will be best positioned to take advantage of opportunities for data-driven innovation’ thus said Dr. Randy L. Carter, Professor Emeritus, University at Buffalo, in his keynote address delivered during the inauguration of International Conference in Operations Management and Research (ICOMAR 2016), on January 21, 2015, at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore. 
 
Dr. Carter said that US is facing a shortage of 140,000 to 190,000 people with deep analytical skills and 1.5 million analysts and managers to analyse big data. Analysts who are able to mine big data with extremely diverse set of skills like deep business insights, data visualization, statistics, machine learning, and computer programming, have greater opportunities in the near future. 
 
The guest of honor for the event Mr. Rajiv Rajpal, Chief Executive Officer, Gear Business Group, Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd, spoke about how an engineering industry could reach global standards by investing in technology, people and of course relationship with all the stakeholders. He elaborated this based on his experience in building up Triveni Engineering. 
 
Earlier, Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, welcoming the delegates and dignitaries highlighted the importance of studies on quality & value to aid decision making. 
 
Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Conference Chair, presented the background note of the conference and the conference theme “Towards Operational Excellence”. 
 
Mr. Sadashiva Baligar, Vice President – Manufacturing, Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, was the invited speaker for the technical session scheduled on the second day of the conference. Mr. Baligar spoke on “Lean Manufacturing Principles of Toyota Production System (TPS)”. He shared the success story of Toyota in standardizing the operations and waste minimization in their entire manufacturing and non-manufacturing functions to increase productivity and efficiency. The talk illustrated the principles of ethical manufacturing followed by the Toyota Company, and described how the culture of lean practices has been spread across the entire organization.
 
Mr. Mahesh Jambardi, Chief Operating Officer, Excelsoft Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Mysore, was the Chief Guest for the Valedictory session on January 22, 2016. In his valedictory address, Mr. Jambardi stressed upon the improvement in the skills of the students using technology. He expressed his views on the digital content development pertaining to primary and higher education.

Kolkata Conference 2015

The 4th International Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance and Social Sciences with the theme “Green Economy! For Sustainable Development!” was organized jointly by SDMIMD as Academic Partner and J.A. Alpha during December 18-20, 2015 at Hyatt Regency Kolkata, India.
 
Dr. Mousumi Sengupta delivered the invited talk during the conference on “HRM & Organizational Sustainability".  Prof. Malathi Sriram, was a Panel member for the discussion on “Ensuring Academic Integrity and Honesty - The Role of an Academician” Dr. Srimantoorao. S. Appadoo, from the University of Manitoba, Canada; Dr. Stephen ARO-GORDON, from Baze University, Nigeria; and Dr. Mohammad Ataur Rahman, from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh; were other panel members. Dr. Elango Rengasamy, from The British University in Dubai, Dubai, UAE, was the Moderator.
 
During the technical sessions Dr. Mousumi Sengupta presented paper on “Green HRM” and Prof. Malathi  Sriram presented research paper on “Comparative Analysis of MOOC platforms”.

CSR Conference 2015

  
A 2-Day Conference on “Corporate Social Responsibility – Approaches and Practices for Inclusive Growth” was organized by SDMIMD during November 5 & 6, 2015. The conference provided a platform for academics, practitioners, researchers and students to deliberate and reflect on issues pertaining to CSR strategies and building socially responsible businesses. 
 
Mr. Muthuraman, Former Vice Chairman, Tata Steel, in his keynote address during the inaugural session of the conference, called for affirmative action by the industry to bridge the gap in the unequal opportunity society.  It is regrettable that the government should mandate CSR spending, he felt. Tracing the history of CSR, Mr. Muthuraman said that the earth is four to five billion years old but the corporate, which is the product of industrial revolution, is about four centuries old and systems are just evolving. But the contribution of corporates to the GDP is exponential.  Even the purpose of business, which was earlier considered as generating profit for the investors, is being challenged. Is the purpose of business mere profit or, improving the quality of life, he asked.. Further, Mr. Muthuraman opined that business is meant for the society and urged the business to choose between profit and human face to doing business.

International Economics Conference 2015

 
SDMIMD organized a two day International Conference on Global Economic Growth and Sustainability: Challenges & Prospects on November 20-21, 2015. The Conference was inaugurated by Dr. Stephen ARO-GORDON, Professor & Head, Financial Mathematics, Baze University, Nigeria. Dr. Stephen, in his inaugural address emphasized the need for sustainable development through microfinance initiatives.  He suggested that ‘wealth of nations’ would need to be complimented by ‘health of nation’ if the growth has to sustain in the long run. 
 
Mr. Francis Kurian, Asst. Vice President, Navia Markets Ltd (Trade Plus), Chennai also graced the occasion. Mr. Kurian highlighted the role of capital markets in spearheading the economic growth. He emphasized that with the merger of Forward Markets Commission (FMC) with SEBI, opportunities for investment commodity markets have opened up exponentially.
 
The conference was attended by 244 delegates from across the world including countries such as Bangladesh, Nigeria, Iran, Philippines and Botswana and more than 160 research papers were presented and deliberated across the two days.

SDMIMD was ‘HR Hub’ during International HR Conference

 
‘Human Resource Management, as a function, needs to emphasize on revolutionary, transitional and transformational change’ said Mr. Richard Lobo, Senior Vice-President & Head - HR, Infosys Ltd, while delivering keynote address at the inaugural function of 4th International Conference on Managing Human Resources at Workplace on December 4, 2015. Mr. Lobo talked about the contemporary challenges faced by HRM, such as, disruptive technology and innovation. He stressed on the challenges of managing the millennial workforce and the role of private networks in managing people. 
 
Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Conference Chair, presented the conference theme and stated that HRM is expected to play the role of the strategic business partner in todays’ organizations. Director Dr. N. R. Parasuraman welcomed the gathering and emphasized on the need of empowering HRM in organizations. 
 
The two-day conference had several invited lectures and panel discussion with eminent corporate leaders and academic speakers. The conference was attended by 250 academic scholars and HR practitioners from India and countries, such as, Bangladesh, Iran, Maldives, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, UAE, and US. The conference created a forum to discuss and deliberate on contemporary HR topics, such as, Human capital management, emotional intelligence, HR and sustainability, Green HRM, HR Analytics, competency mapping, HR Accounting, HR scorecard, managing talent pipeline, and so on.

B-School Partner for NHRD Conclave

The academic events at SDMIMD has always focused on far-reaching impact on management education and business. To continue this in the out-reach activity SDMIMD collaborated with the National Human Resource Development (NHRD) Network as 'B-School Partner' in organizing 19th NHRD Conclave at New Delhi during November 19 & 20, 2015. The event was a platform for interacting with HR professionals. The B-School Partner Stall of SDMIMD at the conclave attracted the participants for information exchange.

National Conference on Consumer Behaviour

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) Mysuru conducted the First National Conference on Consumer behaviour - Contemporary Issues & Emerging Trends on October 30th 2015. The Conference was inaugurated by Mr. Srikanth Srinivasan, Director- HR, Cognizant Technology solutions. While delivering the Key note address Mr. Srikanth Srinivasan focused on various aspects of Consumer behaviour, its multidisciplinary nature and the emerging trends in consumer behaviour across industry sectors like financial services, retail etc. The Conference witnessed participation from academics research scholars and industry analysts from various parts of the country. The one day conference has research papers which are conceptual and empirical focusing on contemporary developments in consumer behaviour. Dubai Conference 2015

The 3rd Middle East Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance & Banking was organized at Dubai, UAE during October 16 to 18, 2015 jointly by SDMIMD, Mysore and J.A. Alpha Business Research & Publishers. The theme of the conference ‘Financial Markets-The Catalysts for Growth!’ attracted academic and corporate nominations across the globe.
 
Mr. Bruce Powers, CMT, President, Wide Vision, Information Technology Solutions, Chief Market Technician, MarketsToday.net, Co-Chair, Market Technicians Association-Dubai Chapter, inaugurated the conference at Al Murooj Rotana Hotel and delivered the keynote address. 
 
Dr. M. R. Suresh, Professor – Marketing, SDMIMD, delivered an invited talk during the technical session on Leadership and Company Growth. During the conference Dr. Suresh presented the paper ‘Strategic responses of successful enterprises: an analysis across ownership forms’ and chaired a session.
