67th Independence Day Celebration

"Get yourselves strong physically, mentally and intellectually. For every Coke that you drink consider drinking a tender coconut and for every Dockers that you may buy, consider buying a Desi jubba. Pause before you make the next purchase. This way, we may have the best of both the worlds! These reasoning and thoughts may appear simplistic but I believe they are implementable”, thus the message from Prof. N.R. Govinda Sharma, Professor – Strategy, SDMIMD, Mysore, while unfurling the National Flag at the 67th Independence Day celebration. 
Prof. Sharma introduced a new school of thought – “Rubanomics” that is gaining ground between rural and urban. He explained ‘Ruban is a person living in rural area but with urban aspiration’. Rubanomics is the study of economics as applied to Rubans.
The students presented the patriotic songs, shared their thoughts on Building Better India and concluded with the community breakfast.

SDMIMD campus had turned into a virtual "global finance village" on August 9 & 10, 2013, with the presence of Academicians, Corporate Executives and Research Students from India and abroad on the occasion of 2nd International Conference on Emerging Trends in Finance & Accounting on the theme "Ideas for the Sustainable Corporate Growth".
Shri Koushik Chatterjee, Executive Director & Group CFO, Tata Steel, inaugurated the conference and delivered keynote address. Shri Chatterjee stressed on transparency, accountability and credibility adding that these are the key factors for the sustainable business growth.
The conference witnessed presentation of 68 research papers in the area of finance and accounting by the participants from India and abroad. The discussions during technical session by prominent academicians and industry practitioners was the key highlight.

Introductory Talk on FLIP National Challenge 2013

Mrs. Anjali Mullatti, CEO & M.D., Finitiatives Learning India Pvt. Ltd. (FLIP) - India’s largest e-learning and certification offering in Banking and Finance gave an introductory talk on the national event - FLIP National Challenge 2013. This is a fiercely fought event at all the national level, where B Schoolers write select FLIP Certifications, to benchmark themselves, against their peers in the area of Banking and Finance. The talk was organized on July 29, 2013 at the Institute auditorium.

Talk on ISO 9000 by Prof. Anantha Prasad

‘ISO does not guarantee quality but assures that the company has a mechanism to rework on any quality issues encountered and provide corrections’ thus opined Prof. Anantha Prasad, ISO Consultant, Mysore. He was addressing the PGDM students on the topic “ISO 9001 – 2008: Quality Management Systems – Requirements” on July 29, 2013 at the Institute auditorium. The talk was focused on ISO needs – Attitude, Belief and Commitment (ABC) and the different stages in development of ISO since 1987.

Ms. Sujata Rajpal at SDMIMD

sujata Ms. Sujata Rajpal, Head - Corporate Communications at SPI, was at SDMIMD on July 19, 2013 to address the students of the first year. She spoke of effective communication skills as an attribute to success. She also informed students about Toastmasters International at SPI, their activities and how it is helping their employees.

Guest lecture by Mr. C.A. Manohar

The students of the course Six Sigma and Lean Management had an opportunity to interact with practitioner and trainer in the field of quality management. Mr. C.A. Manohar, Manager – Quality Assurance, L&T Construction Equipment Limited, Bangalore, shared his experience in many quality improvement project under “Kaizen” initiative, which has contributed towards the ultimate objective of  “Zero Defects”.

Talk by Dr. K.R.S Murthy on 16 July 2013

Dr. K.R.S Murthy gave his insight on the changing paradigm of management education to the faculty community during the special session held on July 16, 2013. Dr. Murthy talked on theories & practices from various disciplines, which has fussioned towards the contribution of management education. He stressed on combining the practice and analytical skill to uphold the uniqueness of management education. He opined that importing western B-School curricula and adapting to largely agrarian Indian economy may not yield results as desired.

Workshop on "Statistical Analysis of Research Data using MS-Excel"

The Hands-on Workshop on Statistical Analysis of Research Data using MS-Excel was held during July 13, 2013 at SDMIMD Mysore. Dr. Laxminarayana, Assistant Profressor – Quantitative Methods, of SDMIMD, Mysore called on participants to give adequate importance to statistical data analysis and the assumptions required to conduct statistical tests. The workshop was aimed with an objective of effectively using MS-Excel to do statistical data analysis. Prof. J. Balaji, Assistant Professor - Quantitative Methods, of SDMIMD, Mysore was the resource person.
