ESG Seminar on Business Sustainability

Dr. Gautam Nagpal, Research Fellow at ESC Pau Business School, France, delivered the ESG Seminar on Business Sustainability for ESG modular specialization students of SDMIMD held during February 5 and February 9, 2024.
 
Sustainability has been a hot topic of discussion in recent times, evident in businesses and organizations. It has evolved from a theoretical concept discussed in academia to a business model and orientation for companies. Sustainability is not just a concept for discussion but a holistic outlook that requires organizations to adjust their business models, missions, visions, and recalibrate their raison d'être or reason for being.
 
During this course, students explore sustainability, business sustainability, and sustainability reporting frameworks in various contexts such as India, the USA, Europe, and the UK, among others. By studying the different theoretical foundations of sustainability, students can understand the origins of business sustainability and its future direction. Through course seminars, students engage in group projects that involve a detailed analysis of an organization's sustainability.

SDMIMD-BCIC Seminar on the Leadership Dimensions

Mr Viju Parameshwar, the Former President & CEO of Kluber Lubrication, delivered the seminar on 'The Leadership Dimensions' on November 15, 2022. SDMIMD and BCIC jointly organized the virtual seminar. The session focused on how managers and leaders can equip themselves with the changing dimensions of leadership. The insightful discussion gave insights into the nuances of leadership. The special invitees, members of BCIC, students of PGDM Batch 22-24 and faculty members participated in the seminar. 

Seminar on VUCA times & Challenges for HR

The National Institute of Personnel Management-NIPM, Mysuru Chapter organized a Seminar on VUCA Times and Challenges for HR in association with SDM Institute of Management Development and Wuerth Elektronik India Pvt. Ltd, on the 3rd of February 2017.
 
Keeping in view the challenges faced by HR professionals in the present era, who are being considered as strategic partners for ensuring effective progression of a company, the topic on VUCA times & Challenges was found necessary. 
 
The term VUCA was introduced by the US Army War College  to describe the more Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous world in the post-cold war era. The term was subsequently adopted by the business world to describe the rapidly changing business environment, underscored by globalisation of markets, rebalancing of the global economy, advances in technology, changing demographic trends, new customer needs and disruption of existing business models.
 
Distinguished speakers from Academia and Corporate who are well versed with the concept were invited to share their perspectives with the delegates who attended the seminar, consisting of HR professionals, Academicians and students in HR from various colleges from Mysuru and Mangalore and Virajpet.
 
The speakers, Dr.Vasanthi Srinivasan, Prof. IIM-B, spoke on ‘VUCA Times & HR – Moving ahead- Challenges and preparations. Mr. N Balachandar, Vice President- HR, Coffee Day Group spoke on ‘ New Frontiers of HR Leadership in VUCA Times’. Mr. Anil Patro, Director HR Asia Pacific Meritor CVS India Pvt. Ltd  spoke on HR as a strategic Business Partner in Emerging Business Scenario’ and Mr. Harsha Adya, Managing Director Wuerth Elektronik India Pvt. Ltd who spoke on’ Technology driven HR’. 
 
The Session was chaired by Dr.Moushmi Sengupta, Professor in HR, SDM Institute of Management Development & Chairperson of ISTD, Mysuru Chapter. 

Seminar on Make in India: Relevance of Cost Management

SDMIMD joined hands with Mysore Chapter of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI), to commemorate Golden Jubilee Celebrations of ICAI Mysore Chapter organised a Seminar on 12th November 2016 at SDMIMD.  The theme of the seminar was “Make in India – Relevance of Cost Management“ and “Current Development in GST”.  
 
The Seminar was inaugurated by CMA G.N. Venkataraman, past President of ICAI of India. Dr. M. Sriram, Professor – Finance, SDMIMD joined the dignitaries to light the traditional lamp. The event is presided over by CMA Suresh Gunjali, Secreary, SIRC of ICAI.  CMA M. Ashok Kumar Chairman, Mysore Chapter reminisced about the initial path of journey of the Mysore Chapter, while Secretary CMA K.M. Lalu proposed vote of thanks. 
 
During the inaugural session the Souvenir was released by CMA Zithendra Rao, Member – SIRC of ICAI.
 
CMA P. Thiruvengadam, a retired Senior Director – Management consultancy services, Deloitte Touche Tohamatsu India Pvt. Ltd, was the resource person of the first Technical session.  He has given vivid description on “Make in India – Relevance of Cost Management “.
 
Mr G. Shivadass, a Principal Partner of Firm Lakshmi Kumaran & Sridharan, Bangalore, was a resource person of Second Technical session on the theme of “Current Development in GST”. He emphasized the necessity for GST which has the potential for improving GDP and to provide better business atmosphere as well as reduction of MRP of the product to the ultimate customers.

Seminar on ‘Microfinance and its future in India’

Mr. Vittal Rangan, was the resource person for the Seminar on Microfinance and its future in India held on September 16, 2016 at SDMIMD. Speaking on the topic of the seminar Mr. Vittal Rangan said there is need for behavioural changes in India to bring financial inclusion which is currently as low as 36% and young managers should be introduced to microfinance industry in their course curriculum and sensitizing on responsible financing and role of microfinance in remittances, to make the situation better.  
 
Sharing his personal experience and success stories in Ujjivan, Mr. Vittal focused his talk on the role of microfinance in financial inclusion and its importance in economic growth of India. He explained in detail about the difference between microfinance and commercial banks. The talk exposed students to several dimensions of microfinance industry in current scenario.
 
During Q&A session Mr. Vittal called upon the SDMites to question themselves about their expectations from life and make their career in the fields they are passionate about and not to give in to peer or parental pressure. 

Seminar on Cost Management & Business Sustainability

SDMIMD in association with The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Mysore Chapter organized one-day seminar on Cost Management & Business Sustainability on November 8, 2014 at Institute auditorium. CMA A. N. Raman, Former President — SAFA, inaugurated the seminar and delivered the keynote address on the seminar theme. The technical Session speakers of the seminar CMA A.R. Krishnamurthy, Retd. General Manager, BEL, Bangalore and Shri. Vishwaprasad Alva, Managing Director, Skanray, Mysore, touched upon the different dimensions of cost management & practices in industries. The deliberations at the seminar attracted the Charted Accountants, Practitioners, corporate Finance personnel from in and around Mysore.
