Khoj 2019

Khoj - the talent search festival of SDMites is a platform for the new batch of PGDM 2019-21 to showcase their aptitude. Kohj 2019 was organized on August 3, 2019, to identify talent among the freshers through various competitions and to formally Welcome them to student committees of the Institute. The show by the new PGDM batch 2019-21 was laced with impromptu speeches, colourful dances, humorous skits, classical songs and fancy dress shows. Seniors PGDM 2018-19 Batch hosted the event and introduced the various clubs & committees to the new bees on the campus. 

Workshop on Neuro Management and Leadership

As part of the exchange arrangement with EAE Business School, Spain, a 4-Day Workshop on “Neuro management and Neuro leadership" was organized for the benefit of Second Year students during July 15 to 18, 2019. The workshop revolved around the essentials for becoming a powerful leader and a team player in today’s dynamic corporate world. 
 
Prof. Alexia threw light on the basic emotions of an individual and emphasized on the two common emotions which are love and fear. She gave insights on Cognitive dissonance and Social Dissonance. Prof. Alexia also elucidated about the mind empowerment and the positive impact created by it on the productivity of an individual. The program was interesting and inquisitive and was instrumental in providing an enriched learning experience for the students.

Visit of EAE Business School team, Spain

 
As part of the exchange arrangement that SDMIMD has with EAE Business School, Spain, a group of 5 students and 1 faculty spent a whole two weeks in July, at Mysore. The delegation was headed by Alexia de la Morena Gómez, Director of the Master in Marketing and Commercial Management (Groups B and C), EAE, Spain.
 
The program was scheduled from July 15 to 26, 2019. The program was packed with industry visits, socially relevant projects, academic sessions and the visit to heritage sites. The students had a chance to learn about exploring the business opportunities in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
 
Side by side, they were exposed to social projects. Teaming with SDMIMD students, the overseas students were divided into groups and made to study specific projects, in respect of which a final report will be presented by them. The visit also had a couple of corporate visits and interaction.

Workshop on 'Brands' by Dr Shilpa Iyanna

A 2-day workshop on Branding and Brand Management was conducted by the Faculty from the University of Abu Dhabi, UAE, Dr Shilpa Iyanna, Associate Professor of Marketing, College of Business.  She made students experience the journey of brand building. The workshop was organized as a part of the faculty exchange program since SDMIMD has a tie-up with the University of Abu Dhabi.

The day-1 covered the topics on 'brands', how brands are built, models that help in building up a brand and the importance of a brand from a consumer perspective. Discussion on internal and external factors that influences the marketing of a brand, importance of culture, cross-culture and challenges faced, were discussed. The day-2 discussed various cases pertaining to top brands and their advertising techniques. 

Foundation Day Lecture 2019

 
At city’s B School SDMIMD, this forenoon, it seemed as if it was the day to experience business of space as virtual reality. Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) was celebrating “Foundation Day” and the invited speaker was Space Scientist Dr K Radhakrishnan, Former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Former Chairman, Indian Space Commission. Dr Radhakrishnan, started his talk, recalling memories of his first visit to SDMIMD during 1996 and Dr Veerendra Heggade Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala and President Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational (SDME) Trust and said only ‘good human beings become leaders’. Further, in his talk, Dr Radhakrishnan gave overview of ISRO’s success journey over 50 years of service to the nation. Guest talk by Mr. Nagi Rao

Mr. Nagi Rao, Founder, Chairman, Austin, TX; and  Founder, Chairman of EqualizeRCM Services; delivered an invited talk to the PGDM 2018-20 Batch on July 18, 2019, at SDMIMD. 
 
Mr. Nagi Rao spoke on how healthcare management has involved over the years. Mr. Rao stressed on how RCM is used as a corporate-level maintenance strategy to optimize the maintenance program of a company or facility. His highly interesting talk evoked a number of questions from the audience and on the whole, the session was highly interesting and instructive.

Dharmasthala trip for PGDM 2019-21

As a part of the orientation program to the new batch of students, a trip to Dharmasthala was organized on July 13-14, 2019, Students got the opportunity to see first hand the numerous social activities going on in Dharmasthala, as well as have the opportunity of interacting with Chairman Dr. D Veerendra Heggade. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had a lot of good things to say about the inspiration they received on meeting Dr. Heggade and being in the holy place.

‘Marketing demands good communication skills apart from a good knowledge about global happenings including such topics like GDP, economic indicators, demographics, and social media. Social media is replacing many other forms of communication including the telephone calls’ thus said Dr. Pradeep A. Rau, Professor of Marketing and International Business, The George Washington University, Washington, DC, the USA during the invited talk organized on July 12, 2019. 

 
Dr. Rau emphasized the role of advertisement and brand building to develop customers on an international scale. Raising questions about India’s capabilities, he provided insight into the possible changes in the future including a shift of the world’s trade towards China and India. In his talk, he stressed on the need to improve the manufacturing capabilities in India if India is to be seen as the future’s manufacturing hub. The talk touched upon several aspects of global business and management education. Dr. Rau kept the session interactive by involving the students in question-answer discussion. He also informed the students about the benefits of studying an MBA program and also about the differences between the US and the Indian students.
