| Budget Conclave 2013 |

Annual Budgets should align with 5 year Plan. Unlocking investments, Addressing the issues of Middle Class, Maximizing exports were some of the opportunities that have been missed out in the current budget. Said Prof Vaidya Subramanian, Dean- Sastra University speaking on the occasion of "Budget conclave 2013" at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development Mysore. He also pointed out that there is an underspending of planned expenditure and overspending of non planned expenditure. |
The event witnessed eminent speakers from the academia and industry sharing their reflections on Union Budget 2013. Shri. S.N.Rao, MD & Chairman of Supreem Pharmaceuticals stressed upon the need for measures to strengthen the SME sector of the economy which could help bolster overall economic growth. Dr. Latha Chakravarthy, Visiting Professor – IIM Bangalore stressed that the Union Budget lacked tooth in tackling the three deficits – fiscal deficit, current account deficit, and trust deficit. She pointed out that there were projects worth more than 7 lakh crore stalled resulting in slower growth of the economy. Prof. S.Vaidyasubramanian said Union Budget 2013 was a missed opportunity lamenting FM for failing to meet the targets of plan expenditure while deploring the pleas to wean investors away from investing in gold. He stressed that in the absence of credible instruments of savings, gold acted as a social security for families in India. Shri T.V.Subramanian, Chairman, SIRC Mysore Chapter, ICAI reflected on the direct and indirect tax measures apprehending the move to tax the super-rich. At the beginning of the conclave, the students SDM IMD gave presentations of key monetary and fiscal measures enunciated in Union Budget. The 3-Day Management fest Naissance 2013 with the theme “Built to Last” took off on 31.01.2013 with inauguration by Mr. Arun Nayar, Vice-President and Global Head HR, Software Paradigms Infotech Pvt. Ltd., Mysore.
Naissance, the biggest event on SDMIMD’s calendar is the arena wherein the brightest minds from the best B schools across India battle it out to attain supremacy in intellect and creativity. It provides an ideal platform for the future managers of the country to showcase their managerial skills and prove their competence as it comprises dynamic events from every realm of management. "Cinematics 2013" as part of the annual mega event "Naissance 2013" was inaugurated on 01.02.2013. Guest Judges Prof Praveen Krupakar, Faculty in Film Studies University of Mysore and Mr. R.J. Avinash, RED FM 93.5 were the invitees. Cinematics, invited Photography and short films and received over 200 entries from all parts of the country. 18 out of 50 short films and 60 out of 193 photographs were short listed & were adjudged. Photographs were based on theme "Nostalgia".

A team of students from PGDM 2011-13 Batch – Dhivya Laxmi S., Manu Govind and Praveen Sudhakar – won first prize in the marketing event at CHRYSALIS 2013, held on February 09, 2013 at Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), Chennai.
The Marketing event involved developing a strategy to a brand packaged drinking water industry. SDMites came up with strategy in both B2B and B2C scenario, and also developed holistic IMC plans to support the brand developing activity, which made them to secure first place. SDMites won the event by competing with other teams from B-Schools like IIT-M, IFMR, IIM-I, K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management & Studies, Christ University, Anna University and Jindal Business School. |

Mr. Jay Zatakia and Mr. Rajanikar Kumar of PGDM 2011-13 Batch, have won 2nd prize in the Operations event of National Level Management Fest Revelation ‘13 organized by Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bangalore on 12-13 January, 2013. They won the prize by beating many teams including Christ University, LIBA Chennai, IBS Bangalore, Jain College and several others prominent B-Schools. |

A very special evening was in store for the residential students of SDMIMD Mysore on February 8, 2013, as they witnessed ultimate display of kalarippayattu, ancient Indian martial art. Amazing display of fitness, flexibility, strength and stamina were seen during “Dhanak 2013” organized by Kalanubhav – the cultural committee of SDMites. Maruthi Kalari group from Trivandrum performed Fire Aerobics, during which the Kalari team members played with fire balls and danced to the traditional beat of Kalariwas another treat to the spectators. Farewell for PGDM 11-13 Batch was held on Feb 15th, 2013 at the Institute campus. The seniors and juniors performed various events which included dancing, singing followed by a DJ. |

| Food Festival 2013 |
Campus life has a flavor to it that is far more memorable than most other life experiences. Not surprisingly, this flavor most often emanates from the cafeteria over coffee and food with dear friends. In a bid to leave a lingering fragrance in the minds of the graduating batch, their juniors at SDMIMD, Mysore, had arranged a 15-day food festival of 15 states on its campus. The institute has students from 21 different states studying here.

As a part of Social responsibility and with a mission to render helping hand to the needy in Hospitals and Govt Schools, students of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development Mysore, carried out donation of - Band Set, Water Purifier, LED Monitors, Books, etc. The beneficiary organizations were - Govt. High School, Manuganhalli, Hunsur Taluk, Mysore District, Asha Kirana Hospital, Mysore and Govt. Higher Primary KARP Body Guard Line School, Siddharthanagar, Mysore. Pramathi Hill View Academy, Mysore joined hands with Center for Advanced Learning – Student Committee, SDMIMD, in donating books to the students of Govt Higher Primary KARP Body Guard Line School. |

The Eighteenth Annual Convocation of the Institute will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013. The PGDM batch 2011-13 is all set to receive their PGDM awards and enter the Corporate World. Padma Bhushan Mr. B. Muthuraman, Vice-Chairman, Tata Steel, will be the Chief Guest and will deliver the Convocation Address. Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Chairman, SDM Educational Trust will preside over the function. |

Book Summary : This work has adopted the Open Business Readiness Rating (OpenBRR) model to evaluate the Open Source Library Automation Software (OSLAS) products against the requirements of the Indian academic libraries. The suitability is presented by mapping the requirements to the performance of OSLAS products using Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). The products were assessed in 3 levels – Quick Assessment, Detailed Assessment and Quadrant Analysis – to answer their suitability beyond quantitative ranking. During quick assessment 9 OSLAS products were analyzed against 65 basic requirements. The four OSLAS products – Evergreen, Koha, NewGenLib and PMBILS - were considered for detailed assessment and evaluated against 682 features under 6 main evaluation modules. The results were subjected to regression analysis to map the requirements and performance of the products using quadrant analysis. The results are presented as 'Category Map' to present the requirements of Indian libraries and 'Performance Map' for each OSLAS product. |
