SDMIMD's Institution Innovation Council
Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI) has approved the establishment of the Institute Innovation Council (IIC) as per the norms of Innovation Cell at SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore. The center will systematically foster the culture of Innovation in the eco-system, by encouraging, inspiring and nurturing the young managers by supporting them to work with new ideas with multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campus.

The IIC will be conducting various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central Ministry of Education Innovation Cell (MIC) in time bound fashion.

Dr. M. Sriram, Associate Professor - Finance, SDMIMD, attended an online workshop on Capital Budgeting organized by Department of Business and Accounting, Muscat College,Oman on November 24,2020.

Dr. M. Sriram was invited to deliver a talk (Virtual) on 'Essential Skills for MBA Students' during the induction program for I year MBA participants organized by School of Management, Central University of Kerala on November 26,2020.

SDMIMD collaborates with the University of Dundee, UK, for Research Conference
SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) Mysore, collaborated with the conference host University of Dundee, UK, as a partnering organization in hosting the University of Dundee School of Business (UDSB) International Partners Research Conference 2020 focused on the issues related to socio-economic development, held during November 24 & 25, 2020.

Prof. Orley Ashenfelter, Professor of Economics, Princeton University, delivered the keynote address on "Comparing Real Wages: the McWage Project”. Prof. Ashenfelter shared his views on the topic with different dimensions focusing on labour economics, econometrics, and law & economics.

The conference experienced presentations of more than 60 research papers on the conference theme received from across the world. The conference discussed several contemporary issues faced by the organizations in the context of education, sustainability, SMEs, rural development, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and COVID-19.

Dr Mousumi Sengupta, Professor - OB/HR, SDMIMD, Chaired a session of paper presentations. Dr Mousumi also took part as a member of the Scientific Committee from SDMIMD in the conference. SDMIMD faculty member Dr G. Lakshminarayana, Associate Professor - Quantitative Techniques, presented a research paper at the conference. The Director of SDMIMD Dr N.R. Parasuraman and faculty members participated in the virtual conference.
NEP 2020 should reduce Inequality and Socio-Educational Gap – Dr R. Indira
‘The National Education Policy 2020 seeks to have a 'Holistic Institution' with multiple discipline, mutual learning, and respect to other discipline. According to All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) 2019 report there are 993 Universities, 39931 Colleges and 10725 Stand Alone Institutions who are registered. It is time to unlearn and relearn among these Higher Educational Institutions to implement NEP 2020 to reduce inequality and socio-educational gap in the country’ thus said noted Sociologist and reputed Professor Dr. R. Indira during the Webinar on Implication of NEP 2020 on Higher Education organized by SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) banner on November 18, 2020.

Dr R. Indira said that the NEP 2020 is a vision document which details the things which can be carried out for the betterment of Indian Education System. Even though some of the initiatives in the document are already in place in many institutions, the autonomy to frame the syllabus, more focused approach towards innovation, multi-discipline universities and corporatization of higher education are some of the core concepts which Higher Educational Institutions should now focus upon. Further, the institutions should have clear plans for social inclusiveness and growth as a research-teaching universities.

Speaking on the occasion Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, Mysore, emphasised the importance for educational institutions in bringing greater social awareness among students.

Dr. B. Yashoverma, Secretary of SDM Educational Trust, Ujire, graced the occasion. Dr. Sunil M.V., Nodal Officer of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) at SDMIMD coordinated the program. Faculty members, research scholars and educationist participated the webinar.
SDMIMD JoM: 10 Years in Scholarly Publication
Started in 2010, the stature of the SDMIMD Journal of Management (SDMIMD JoM) has risen in the Peer-Reviewed Scholarly Publication World. During the past decade, the journal which focuses on the realm of management has witnessed tremendous growth in the quality contributions of the researchers & academics. Further, the journal has gained rising readership and wider popularity and it is evident from the high Index Copernicus Value (ICV 2018) of the journal (95.57). Eventually, the SDMIMD JoM got indexed in EBSCO, J-Gate, i-Scholar, Copernicus, Cosmos and UGC list. Currently, the journal has applied for the UGC Care List. Talk on ‘Global Financial System - Yesterday, Today and tomorrow’
Dr Stephen ARO-GORDON, Adjunct Faculty of SDMIMD and Professor, Department of Business and Accounting, Muscat College (University of Stirling Management School in Oman) delivered webinar on the topic ‘Global Financial System-Yesterday, Today and tomorrow’ on Friday, November 27, 2020.

Dr Aro-Gordon gave orientation on the perspectives of Global Financial Systems in the current global pandemic scenario. The challenges and opportunities the world could probably face during the post pandemic situation were discussed by the speaker. Dr Aro-Gordon briefly touched upon the emergence of Islamic banking and opined that ‘Islamic Banking’ as an alternative channel to conventional banking in the current situation.
Talk on 'The Indian Economy Path' by RBL Chief Economist
Invited speaker Ms Rajni Thakur, Chief Economist at Ratnakar Bank Limited (RBL Bank), Mumbai, delivered a webinar on 'Tracing the recovery path for the Indian economy' on November 7, 2020.

The speaker was of the view that there was a slowing of the economy before the pandemic itself and further explained, how COVID had aggravated the pain. Ms Rajini opined that one of the key reasons for the slowdown was the low rate of consumption while other factors like trade war, after-effects of demonetization, and GST implementation added to the woes. The speaker highlighted how the economy was picking up with a ‘V shaped' recovery and said policy intervention would play a vital role in sustaining this momentum. Discussing the current job market, Ms Ranjini said that based on the available data there is a reduction in job loss over the last quarter.
