Talk by Dr. K.R.S Murthy on 16 July 2013
Dr. K.R.S Murthy gave his insight on the changing paradigm of management education to the faculty community during the special session held on July 16, 2013. Dr. Murthy talked on theories & practices from various disciplines, which has fussioned towards the contribution of management education. He stressed on combining the practice and analytical skill to uphold the uniqueness of management education. He opined that importing western B-School curricula and adapting to largely agrarian Indian economy may not yield results as desired.

Students Exchange Program

SDMIMD has Student Exchange Programs with the MAYS School of Business, Texas A&M University, USA and Global Management Institute of Shanghai University, China.

Student Exchange Program to foreign shores is advantageous in three ways. First, at a personal level, self-development and awareness leading to enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem, the most noticeable change in returned exchange students. Second, at the education level International learning and knowledge propels students towards acceptance and understanding of an array of different cultural and community perspectives. Third, at the job prospect level, prospective employers in almost every field look favorably upon the experience gained overseas and knowledge obtained of another culture.

In this issue, the PGDM 2012-14 batch students selected for the exchange program with Mays School of Business, Texas A&M University, USA, have shared their aspirations from the programs.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Sandeep Pai
It was a great opportunity for the students of Business Marketing course to interact with their Alumnus Mr. Sandeep Pai presently working as Area Manager for M/s Volvo Buses India P. Ltd., on July 13, 2013. The session was anchored by Prof. Rangan Mohan to make the students understand the practical aspects of B2B markets while linking it to the theoretical learning’s of the class. The session on the topic “Challenges of Institutional Sales in Recessionary Markets and Insights into Practical Aspects of B2B marketing in India” covered the aspects such as the Process of Tendering for Institutional sales in Government Tenders, complications of order fulfilment, advantages and difficulties when the bid is split between self and competitors etc. Also issues in marketing for individual customers / family run business and other private customers were addressed. How recession has affected the sales of Transport Vehicles and how the risks are being mitigated were touched upon.

Part-Time PGDM Program Inauguration

The AIMA-CME AITCE recognised PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) twinning with the SDMIMD PGCPM (Post Graduate Certificate Program in Management) part time dual certification program was inaugurated on the 16th July 2013 at the SDMIMD campus. The Director addressed the participants regarding the conduct and curriculum of the program. The classes for the same are to start from the 26th of July 2013.

Workshop on "Statistical Analysis of Research Data using MS-Excel"
The Hands-on Workshop on Statistical Analysis of Research Data using MS-Excel was held during July 13, 2013 at SDMIMD Mysore. Dr. Laxminarayana, Assistant Profressor – Quantitative Methods, of SDMIMD, Mysore called on participants to give adequate importance to statistical data analysis and the assumptions required to conduct statistical tests. The workshop was aimed with an objective of effectively using MS-Excel to do statistical data analysis. Prof. J. Balaji, Assistant Professor - Quantitative Methods, of SDMIMD, Mysore was the resource person.
