80th Independence Day

SDMIMD celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at its campus on August 15, 2026.

Prof. Venkatesh Goudar, Assistant Professor of Marketing, hoisted the national flag and addressed the gathering on the momentous occasion. In his address, Prof. Goudar highlighted that independence today signifies much more than political freedom. It also represents India’s remarkable journey in economic development, technological advancement, national security, self-reliance, and human capability. Reflecting on the 79 years since independence, he emphasised the remarkable transformation India has witnessed across various spheres.

Speaking about India’s transformation since independence, Prof. Goudar focused on significant developments in the areas of the economy, digital and technological capabilities, and defence. He noted that India’s recent economic growth has been driven by consumption, investment, and exports, particularly in the services sector. The sustained expansion of the economy, he observed, stands as one of the most significant achievements of post-independence India.

Highlighting India’s progress in defence, Prof. Goudar noted that the country has substantially strengthened its defence infrastructure and indigenous defence production capabilities. The growth in defence manufacturing and exports, he added, reflects India’s steady movement towards greater self-reliance in defence.

Emphasising the role and responsibility of educational institutions, Prof. Goudar observed that the purpose of education should extend beyond merely preparing students for their first job. He stressed that educational institutions must equip students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset required for their next phase of growth and development, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.

Aman Goswami, a first-year PGDM student, shared his perspectives on the idea of Bharat and the responsibility of the youth in building a stronger nation. He spoke about India’s recent achievements and encouraged his fellow students to take an active role in shaping the country’s future and contributing to its continued progress.

As part of the Independence Day celebrations, Kalanubhav, the student team, organised a series of cultural performances. Ms. Kshithi Rai presented a solo singing performance that beautifully captured the spirit of patriotism while highlighting the responsibility of every citizen towards the nation. The music and dance teams further added to the celebrations with their energetic performances, reflecting the enthusiasm, unity, and patriotic spirit of the students.

The Independence Day programme concluded with a community breakfast organised at the SDMIMD Mess, bringing together members of the SDMIMD community in the spirit of camaraderie and togetherness.
