SDMIMD Organizes Special Lecture on Emotional Wellbeing in the Digital Era
Digital Wellbeing Requires Balance, Self-Regulation and Resilience: Dr. Raveesh B. N.
Mysuru, July 31, 2026: SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysuru, organized a special lecture on “Emotional Wellbeing in the Digital Era,” delivered by Dr. Raveesh B. N., Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), and former Director of DIMHANS. He addressed students on the growing challenges of digital addiction, social media overuse, and the importance of developing healthy emotional habits.
Dr. Raveesh observed that while technology offers immense benefits, excessive dependence on the internet, social media, and online gaming adversely affects attention, memory, and overall mental well-being. He attributed digital addiction to factors such as the need for validation, lack of emotional support, social comparison, low self-esteem, cyberbullying, and excessive digital exposure from an early age.
Sharing practical strategies for emotional wellbeing, he emphasized self-regulation, mindful use of technology, digital hygiene, healthy routines, meaningful interpersonal relationships, adequate sleep, and regular breaks from digital devices. He encouraged students to use technology with balance and moderation to build emotional resilience.
Highlighting the need to balance science and nature, Dr. Raveesh advised students to cultivate self-discipline and emotional strength, focus on their efforts rather than outcomes, and develop resilience by accepting life’s uncertainties with maturity.
Dr. Mohamed Minhaj, Dean – Academics; Dr. Keerthan Raj, Associate Professor – Marketing; Mr. C. V. Sridhar, Manager – Administration; and Mr. Gururaj Khasnis, Manager – Admissions, were present during the session.
