Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dean and Professor of the School of Commerce and Management at Chanakya University, delivered a guest lecture to the finance students of SDMIMD held on December 2, 2023. He emphasized the significance of modeling and predictive analytics for finance students. He reviewed the fundamentals of crucial concepts using Excel. Subsequently, he employed Gretl software to demonstrate the regression process. Additionally, he outlined the steps involved in creating Blue and Garch models. At the end of the session, he also encouraged the students to develop models on their own.

Mr. Sanjay, Technology Leader in Cloud Engineering DevOps and Corporate Training in AWS , Azure and GCP, delivered a guest talk (Virtual Mode) on managing cloud services and their industry impact on December 2, 2023. During the session, he discussed case studies from Netflix and Unilever, highlighting cost reduction strategies in these firms. The talk emphasized the broader impact and benefits of cloud services in the industry, shedding light on AI tools like AWS text recognition and the importance of ChatGPT. Exploring job prospects in cloud computing across sectors was a key focus. Furthermore, the session deliberated on the advantages of OCR and the scope of document management.

Speech by Mr. Vijaykrishnan Venkatesan, Chairman, CII Karnataka

Mr. Vijaykrishnan Venkatesan, Chairman, CII Karnataka State Council & Managing Director, Kennametal India Ltd was the Chief Guest to the valedictory session of the two-day 8th International Economics Conference on the theme of “Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends” on November 30, 2023. While talking about economic growth and sustainability, Mr.Venkatesan was trying to present an overview of the paradoxical scenario between them. Some of the basic industrial sectors such as steel, pharma, cement, chemical, fertilizer, etc were driving the development of the economy with their growth but negatively affected the environment and sustainability. He called for a balanced approach to development wherein more growth does not affect sustainability. Mr.Venkatesan considers governance as an important element and calls upon the industry and the government to follow high standards of governance. In his address, Mr Sriram presented an overview of the current state of the Indian economy. He said that India is a country of immense growth opportunities as many of the sectors have shown strong resilience to the COVID-19 pandemic and geo-political factors. He believes that the Indian demography can be translated into a dividend which requires proper man-power planning. Mr.Sriram considers regular and continuous up-skilling and re-skilling of the employees as a critical force of productivity and growth. Mr.Iyer accentuated the industry's dynamism, emphasizing the need for creative thinkers and adept problem solvers who can navigate the chaos and challenges inherent in pharmaceutical management. He elucidated the four major stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry: consumers, health providers (hospitals), businesses (such as the water industry), and the government. With precision, he detailed the typical 20-year life cycle of a new drug application, stressing the crucial role of funding and investment in India's pharmaceutical future. Notably, he commended the abundant talent pool within the country, especially in inorganic chemistry.

The session speaker, Mr. Sudhir S Mysore, a Product Owner of Digital Manufacturing Solutions at SAP Lab, with his journey spanning over 20 years across pre-sales, business development, product development, and project management, added depth to the session. The industry intervention session, a key component of the Understanding Information Systems in Organization (UISO) course, was organised by SDMIMD on November 3 & 4, 2023. The session delved into the core concepts of ERP, unravelling its significance in today's rapidly evolving business landscape, and shared practical insights on process integration, product development, and project management.
