CM Bommai Released a Report on Human Capital in Karnataka

The Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri. Basavaraj Bommai released a report on “Human Capital in Karnataka: An outlook of new age skill imperatives for the new age workforce” in a BCIC program held on 5th August, 2022 at Bangalore. Dr.C.N. Ashwathnarayan, Minister for Skill Development, Government of Karnataka was also present along with the Chief Minister while releasing the report. 
 
This report was prepared by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore for Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC). SDMIMD’s BCIC Centre for Excellence at Mysore has the vision of accelerating the pace of industry-academia collaboration for the betterment of the society and the present report is towards fulfilling the Centre’s objectives. 
 
This report was designed based on intensive research and interviews with several eminent industry leaders and academic experts. 
 
The report assessed the present state of skill gap in Karnataka from the lens of seven specific industry verticals such as heavy industry, automobile manufacturing, hospitality, banking, financial services and insurance, IT and ITes, pharmaceutical and consultancy services. While analysing the skill gap, the study attempted to estimate the future need of new age skill sets and the potential of academic institutions to scale up to meet the skill requirements of the industry in Karnataka. The report also offers the frameworks and recommendations to the government, industry and academia for individual and joint actions on upskilling the youths with new age skills to make them employable and productive. 
 
The Chief Minister and the Minister, after releasing the report in the presence of industry stalwarts, were appreciative of the report and assured policy actions based on the report and its recommendations. The program was attended by more than 300 industry leaders.
 
Dr.B.Venkatraja, Associate Professor of Economics, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development, Mysore was the Lead Researcher for the report.
