Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Innovative Teaching Methods - May 31, 2024

The pedagogy of the teaching-learning environment has experienced significant changes over time, keeping the ever-changing business scenario. Today, imparting knowledge with the help of creativity and innovative tools, facilitated by behavioural and technological interventions, has become the order of the day. On one hand, these innovative instructional strategies facilitate more enjoyable learning environments and on the other, the trainers and faculty members get the opportunity to create a more hands-on learning environment in the class. This FDP aims to bring insight into certain innovative teaching methods, by using hands-on experiences, which faculty members may incorporate during their sessions, irrespective of the subjects they are handling.  

-----> Objectives of the FDP

  1. To introduce the design and customization of teaching approaches suiting student needs.
  2. To present new and innovative ways of engaging students in the classroom.
  3. To identify and apply new technology that will improve the ability of class projects, assignments and to presentation of ideas.
  4. To share the use of new teaching strategies to make classes more lively, interactive, and interesting.

-----> Topic Coverage / Outline

  • The program is intended to provide faculty with an idea about the case method of teaching. It also equips participants with how to handle the case discussion session and enhances its effectiveness.
  • Designing role play and group activities will be introduced so that teachers and students can make the best out of this teaching methodology.
  • Hands-on sessions on the use of Artificial Intelligence tools in preparation for class projects, assignments and presentations will be covered as part of the technology adoption.
  • Introducing the conceptual framework to design a course for making the students socially responsible, socially relevant and socially inclusive. With a case study of ‘Social Enterprise Research’.

Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, a seasoned academic, holds a PhD from IIT Kharagpur and a Master's in HRM from Thames Valley University. She is an Ex-Chairperson of SDM RCMS at SDMIMD, with over 20 years of experience in OB and HRM. Dr. Mousumi has authored books, won awards, and mentored at various esteemed institutions globally. She is a registered PhD guide at University of Mysore, with a track record of presenting papers and training for public and private sector companies. Dr. Mousumi was honored as the Best Professor in Human Resources Management by the Asia Pacific HRM Congress in 2022.

Dr. Sunil M.V., specializing in Systems and General Management, former Head of Academic Administration and former Co-ordinator for SDM Research Centre for Management Studies (SDM RCMS). He is a Certified professional from American Library Association (ALA) and IIM Bangalore. Dr. Sunil's intellectual contributions extend beyond the classroom. He has authored papers featured in reputable journals, conferences, book chapters & online course materials, further enriching academic discourse.
