Guest lecture by Sundar K.S

Mr. Sundar, Associate Vice President, Education and Research, Global Education Centre, Infosys, Mysore addressed the students on 7 February 2015 on the topic “Ethical practices in IT” as a part of the course “Ethics and Values in Management”. He gave insights as to how People, Process and Products are the components of ethical process in IT and illustrated it with a case study of Infosys. He elaborated on the value systems at Infosys, C-Life, which is an acronym for Client value, Leading by example, Integrity and Excellence. The talk was followed by a lively question and answer session. Some of the students took this opportunity to interview him as a part of Activity Based Learning cell.

JK Tyre & Industries CMDP Batch IV – February 03 to 06, 2015

The 4th Batch of the JK Tyre & Industries Customized Management Development Program (CMDP) was conducted from February 3 to 6, 2015. The program was inaugurated by Dr. N. R.Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD Mysore in the presence of Mr. Gowri Prakash, Manager – HR, JK Tyre & Industries, VTP Mysore. The program delivered over 4-days witnessed participation from 23 participants representing the Vikrant TyrePlant (VTP), Mysore and Chennai Tyre Plant (CTP).
The fourth in the series of programs designed for Identified High Performers (IHPs) of the company who are being trained across all the functions of management comprising of Finance, Marketing, Human Resources Management, Operations, Strategy, and Information Technology. Mr. Umesh K. Shenoy, Vice President – Works, JK Tyre & Industries, VTP Mysore was the Chief Guest for the valedictory session. The program was coordinated by Dr. Ullas Rao, Associate Professor – Finance, SDMIMD Mysore.

Naissance Inauguration

 

Naissance, the Student managed flagship management fest of SDMIMD was inaugurated by Mr. Girish Karunakaran, Vice President of Eurasia, Software Paradigm International (SPI). The 3-Day event scheduled during January 29 to 31, 2015, is the arena wherein the brightest minds from the best B-Schools across India battle it out to attain supremacy in intellect and creativity. This year the theme ‘Unscramble for Success’ emphasizes the need for synergy and distinctness among managers to enable them, make the right moves at the right time to scale greater pinnacles in this scrambled world.
 
Mr. Girish Karunakaran in his inaugural address to the young minds gathered stressed on the role of youth towards building the nation. Speaking about the entrepreneurial initiatives in the country, which is steadily growing over the past few years, he called upon the young managers to build their career and provide employment to others as well.
 
Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD welcomed the gathering and appreciated the effort and managerial acumen of SDMites in making Naissance 2015 possible. 
 
Over 180 students representing B-Schools across India participated in this event. The participants had chance to showcase their managerial acumen in various events organized at Naissance 2015. 
 
  • ‘Daayitva’ the Corporate Social Responsibility event was won by team ‘Sharpeners’, from the CSR Centre of Excellence, comprising Gurunandan Rao M, Sahana V.P and Jagadeesh P.H. 
  • The finance event ‘VittArohan’ had team from Loyola Institute of Business Administration, comprising Chathurya P and Geetha P.J as winner. 
  • The team from XIME Bangalore, comprising of Nupur Malpani and Moumita Mahapatra won the Human Resource event ‘Carpe Articulum’
  • The team from LIBA won the marketing event ‘Markethor’. Oscar D’Souza and Evans Thomas represented LIBA for the marketing event. 
  • ‘Impendence’ the Operations event was conquered by Nimish Halkar and Libin George representing Christ University. 
  • Another team from Christ comprising of Sharan Jawalkar and Devesh Sharma won the Systems event - ‘Lucifer’s Ultimatum’.  
  • The B-Plan competition organized by SDMIMD E-Cell – Swayam was very encouraging. The team from Goa Institute of Management - findadspot.com comprising of Mr.Ankur Jhunjhunwala and Mr.Suneet Dashora emerged as winners of this event. 
Xavier’s Institute of Management Bangalore emerged as Overall Champions of Naissance 2015 for their performance in all the events organized in this 3-Day management fest. 
 
Mr. Rakesh Babu , Director, Innomantra, was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function. Mr. Rakesh Babu addressed the gathering and handed over the prizes to the winners of the various events. The audience was thrilled and cheered the winning team of XIMB when it received the overall trophy from the chief guest. 

20th Annual Convocation

On Friday, March 27, 2015 the Twentieth Annual Convocation for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) for batch 2013-15 was held. Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala and Chairman of the Institute presided over the convocation and awarded Certificates of Merit to the 2013- 2015 batch students. Shri R.Seshasayee, Executive Vice Chairman, Hinduja Group, India was the Chief Guest on the occasion and delivered the Convocation Address. He conferred the gold medals to the students who exceled in various specializations – Marketing, Finance, Human Resources Management, Operations and Systems. In his address Shri. R. Seshasayee said youngsters constitute 60 percent of the population and they have massive power for change. But they have to think about what to change and how to change. He mentioned about many individuals from social and political movements, who have succeeded in bringing changes in the system. 
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade spoke on the occasion and said that India is poised for high growth and development. Also, the high level of interest shown by the corporates towards the country is possibly a sign of improved wealth creation. He mentioned that in the modern corporate management, a disturbing feature is the phenomenon of falling moral and ethical standards. When we hear more about scandals and frauds, we feel about the lack of ethical and moral foundation of individuals. 
179 students were awarded PGDM certificates. Five top achievers were given gold medals. Apoorva P. bagged the highest with three medals – Chairman’s Distinguished Student Gold Medal, Ankur Gupta Memorial Alumni Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Finance and Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Human Resources Management. Nishanth M. S. was conferred Ankur Gupta Memorial Gold Medal for Best Overall Performance. Gold Medal for excellent performance in Marketing was presented to Abhijit Vijayeendra Korti, Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Systems was awarded to Kavita Mary Thomas and Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Operations was bestowed upon Vikas N.
Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD welcomed the gathering and presented a glimpse of significant achievements & activities of 2014-15. Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director, SDMIMD, proposed the vote of thanks.

Amazing You… amazed SDMites once again

Amidst all the pressures of academica, students of SDMIMD managed to keep their creative spirits up. The students managed to maintain the legacy of photography project – Amazing you - which was started last year.  On January 30, 2015, SDMIMD witnessed the Amazing you exhibition. More than 350 visitors had visited the exhibition. The visitors were pleasantly surprised on seeing the pictures of students getting clicked with such wonderful concepts. A few notable photographs which grabbed special attention were those of Neha Patil, Ashish Mishra, Sandeep Negi, Aakash Rawat and Titas Debnath
The Amazing You project aims to bring the best out of every student of SDMIMD. “We feel, everyone has something amazing and beautiful in themselves and we thrive to bring out the same through photographs. The project has the same fan following as it had last year.” says Aditya Jiddu the student coordinator of the event. The photographers travelled across Mysore in different times to catch the perfect light for the photograph. The members of the Team Amazing You Phase –II include Aditya Jiddu, Vaibhav Bhandari, Aditya khandelwal, Prateek Jain, Abhijeet Mishra, Shreyas H N and Vishnu A A. The group has students from both first and second years. 

Big Future: the B-Plan Competition 2015

Swayam – the Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) of SDMIMD has organized national level B-plan competition – Big Future, in which premier B-schools across India were participated in this event. It was a platform where the budding entrepreneurs got a chance to fulfil their dream plan into real. The competition was organized as a part of Naissance 2015. The event scheduled on January 29 & 30, 2015 were adjudged by the SDMIMD alumni members - Mr. Ravi Shankar, CEO, Aim High Consultancy and  Mr. Murali Mohan, Managing Partner of Gopika Perfumeries. Dr. M. R. Suresh & Prof. Rajendra Todalbagi the faculty members were present.

66th Republic Day Celebration

SDMIMD commemorated 66 years of Indian Republic day with the usual enthusiasm and zeal.  Dr.  M.R. Suresh, Professor – Marketing, was the Chief Guest of the function. The function began with the hoisting of the flag by the chief guest followed by the singing of the national anthem.  Prof. M R Suresh and Prof. N.R. Govinda Sharma, Professor – Business Ethics and Strategy spoke on the occasion and gave away the certificates to the winners of various sports events organized recently. Several students shared their thoughts on the country.  This was followed by a community breakfast at the Institute mess.  Many faculty members including the Director were present.

The III Batch of the JK Tyre & Industries Customized Management Development Program (CMDP) is organized during January 27 to 30, 2015. The program was inaugurated by Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD Mysore in the presence of Mr. Gowri Prakash, Manager – HR, JK Tyre & Industries, VTP Mysore. The program delivered over 4-days witnessed participation from 28 participants representing the Vikrant Tyre Plant (VTP) and Chennai Tyre Plant (CTP). 
This is the third in a series of programs designed for Identified High Performers (IHPs) of the company identified by the management, who are being trained across all the functions of management comprising of Finance, Marketing, Human Resources Management, Operations, Strategy, and Information Technology.
