Welcome Session for Second Year Students – June 16, 2025

SDMIMD warmly welcomed the second-year PGDM 2024-26 students back to campus for the academic year 2025–26 with a special session held on Monday, June 16, 2025.

The session began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Mohamed Minhaj, Dean – Academics, setting the tone for the new academic term. This was followed by an insightful address by Dr. Prasad S N, Director, SDMIMD, who emphasized the importance of focus, commitment, and continuous learning as students transition into their final year of the PGDM program. 

A key highlight of the session was the SIP Experience Sharing by select students, who reflected on their summer internship journeys, the challenges faced, the learning outcomes, and the industry insights they gained during their tenure with various organizations. Dr.Kannadas S, Associate Professor & SIP Coordinator, briefed the audience on the overall performance of students during their Summer Internship Program based on the feedback received from various organizations, providing a comprehensive view of their achievements and areas of growth.

The session concluded with a brief yet engaging Glimpse of the Business Landscape presented by Dr. Vasumathy Hariharan, Anchor Faculty for the course. She offered an overview of what students can expect from the course, encouraging them to actively connect theoretical frameworks with real-world business scenarios. The welcome session marked a refreshing start to the academic year, rekindling the spirit of learning, collaboration, and professional growth.

Collaborative Report published by SDMIMD & BCIC on ESG Landscape

SDMIMD takes pride in announcing that a research work entitled “Navigating the ESG Landscape: Awareness and Requirements among Indian Executives”, jointly conducted by Dr. Sunil M V, Assistant Professor, General Management & Systems; and, Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Dean - International Relations & Professor of OB and HRM, has been published as a collaborative report by Bangalore Chambers of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) Bengaluru and SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysuru.
 
The report highlights the current state of ESG awareness and the technological requirements for effective ESG reporting among Indian executives. The findings of this study provide valuable insights for the organizations as they navigate the evolving ESG landscape and work toward building more sustainable and responsible businesses. 

Heilbronn University Team Visits SDMIMD Mysore

As part of the international academic partnership, a team of students and faculty members from Heilbronn University Graduate School (HUGS), Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences, Germany, visited the SDMIMD Mysore campus on March 3, 2025.
 
During the visit, Dr. S. N. Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, conducted a session for the German team on India’s history, culture, people, and business. Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Dean of International Relations at SDMIMD, led an interactive session on ethics, responsibility, and sustainability in India. Dr. Mamta Hegde, a faculty member in the area of HRM at SDMIMD, shared her insights on Indian business leadership.
 
From Heilbronn, Dr. Ulrike Weingart, Professor of Family Business & Ethics; Daniel Nill, Junior Professor at the Tandem Qualification Centre for Supply Chain Management; and Anastasia Zenn, Degree Programme Manager, accompanied the student team.

Union Budget 2025- Post Budget Analysis

The Institute hosted a session on Union Budget 2025 to deliberate on the salient aspects. The programme’s agenda was to elicit views of the panelists who were invited to be part of the discussions. The speakers were Mr. Maheshwar Peri, Founder and Chairman of Careers360, and CA Uttam Padiwal, Consultant at Padival & Associates and Chairperson of Mysuru Chapter, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The programme begun with an introduction to the purpose and the agenda of the session by Dr.M.Sriram, Associate Professor-Finance, SDMIMD and Coordinator for the programme. Dr.S.N.Prasad, Director, SDMIMD provided an overview of the Indian economy during his inaugural address.
 
Mr.Maheshwar Peri,  explored  taxation trends in education and opined his views on the Government’s spending on higher education. While expressing concerns on high indirect taxes on education, he suggested measures for making higher education affordable for all sections of the society. CA Uttam Padiwal focused on the agriculture sector, emphasizing the importance of affordable farm loans, a ₹500 crore allocation for Centres of Excellence in Education, and proposed amendments in income tax laws, including extending the return filing period to four years.
 
The conclave also featured a brief presentation on the salient features of the Union Budget by the students of SDMIMD – Mr. Darshan Shashidhar Shetty, Mr. Prajwal Mangalore, Ms. Poorvika R and Ms. Leena M with Ms. Akhila Vinjamur being the Master of Ceremonies. The event culminated with a question-and-answer session addressed by the panelists. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.S. Kannadas, Associate Professor-Finance, SDMIMD. The conclave was attended by industry leaders, practitioners, academicians, and students.

Online talk by Mr. Chitradip Pramanik

On February 21, 2025,  Mr. Chitradip Pramanik, the Global Head of Marketing of Reactore, delivered an invited talk on MASTERING GLOBAL CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS.  The session, as a part of the International HRM course, covered various aspects on managing clients for MNCs. Issues, such as, cross-cultural communication, empathy, and proactive leadership, have been discussed, in the context of global business. The students enjoyed the enriching interaction.   Mr. Pramanik is an alumni of SDMIMD.

SDMIMD Partners with CII Mysuru for Symposium on Inspiring Women to Live Fulfilling Lives

SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) was proud to be the Knowledge Partner for the Inspiring Women to Live Fulfilling Lives symposium, hosted by the CII Mysuru CSR | HR-IR & Women Networking Panel at the Infosys Mysuru campus on February 14, 2025. With over 160 participants, the event fostered meaningful discussions on various dimensions of well-being.
 
The symposium featured a keynote address by Dr. Ananthalakshmi Venkitaraman, Founder, EquiBeing Foundation, who emphasized self-empowerment and overcoming self-doubt. Expert-led sessions covered financial, physical, mental, and emotional well-being, with insights from industry leaders and healthcare professionals. Interactive elements, including a fun games session and an open house discussion, further enriched the experience.
 
Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, who conceptualized and led the event, conducted a session on emotional well-being, highlighting the importance of managing emotions, self-compassion and laughter yoga.
 
The event was a resounding success, inspiring participants to embrace holistic well-being in their personal and professional lives.

Research Development Program on Econometrics

SDMIMD held a two-day Research Development Program (RDP) on Econometrics with the theme "Navigating the time Series Data Analysis in Social Science Research” on February -14-15, 2025. 
 
The program had 44 registered participants who were professors or research scholars affiliated to reputed institutions/colleges of different parts of Karnataka. 
 
The offline program dwelled upon the application of econometric estimations such as ARIMA- ARMA, ARCH-GARCH, Cointegration, VECM, VAR, ARDL, Granger Causality in social sciences for decision making. 
 
SDMIMD Faculty members - Dr Srilakshminarayana G, Associate Professor of Quantitative Methods, Dr. Sriram M, Associate Professor of Finance, Dr Vasumathy Hariharan, Professor of Finance and Dr Venkatraja B, Associate Professor of Economics anchored sessions. Sessions across two-days were rigorous with hands-on learning experiences.

Navigating ESG Risks: Disaster Management in Business

On February 15, 2025, Lt. Col. L Shri Harsha (Retd.), Project Management Consultant & Technical Arbitrator, delivered an insightful session on 'Disaster Management, ESG, and Business' as part of the ESG Modular Specialization industry intervention session. He emphasized the critical link between disaster management and business sustainability, highlighting that both natural and man-made disasters pose significant challenges to communities and economies alike.
 
Lt. Col. Shri Harsha emphasized the necessity for proactive risk management and disaster preparedness as essential strategies for addressing ESG-related risks. He urged emerging managers to leverage their skills in management, ESG awareness, and technology to foster a secure and sustainable business environment.
 
A heartfelt thank you to Lt. Col. Shri Harsha for enhancing our understanding of disaster risk reduction and its vital connection to ESG principles. His insights serve as a powerful reminder that resilience is not just a strategy—it’s a responsibility.

Online talk by Ms.Vaishnavi S

Ms. Vaishnavi S. delivered a talk on "Life of an Indian Expat Manager: Issues and Challenges", as a part of the International HRM course, on February 8, 2025. Ms. Vaishnavi, a SDMIMD Alumni, is working as a Senior Practice Lead - HR Compliance at Infosys in the US, at present. The session was full of real life examples of an Indian expat manager. The session was very interactive and insightful. Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, the course faculty, was present during the session, to facilitate the process.  

Talk on "OD Consultant/Advisor Perspective on Organization Development & Change Management" by Dr. Nataraj R. T.

On 1 February 2025, Dr. Nataraj R. T. delivered a talk on “OD CONSULTANT / ADVISOR PERSPECTIVE ON ORGANISATION DEVELOPMENT & CHANGE MANAGEMENT” to the second year HR students of SDMIMD, as a part of the “Organizational Change & Development” course. The session focussed on Dr. Nataraj’s professional experience as a consultant and advisor to several family businesses. Dr. Nataraj discussed the issues and challenges faced by a consultant, in terms of acceptability of the consultant's  suggestions and the resistance to change among the employees and management. Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, the course faculty, and the students, discussed several aspects of the necessities and feasibility of implementing appropriate OD interventions to bring positive changes in family businesses, during the sesion.
