Guest lecture by Ms.Swarna Gowri

Ms. Swarna Gowri, a consultant in the area of learning and psychological development held a day-long workshop for the benefit of students who have undertaken a project on “Impact of Yoga on emotional intelligence of management students” on 8 February 2015. The activity based workshop introduced the students to the concept of emotional intelligence, purpose of life, role of emotional intelligence in interpersonal and intrapersonal skills and how Yoga helps developing emotional intelligence. The workshop was very well received.

Guest lecture by Sundar K.S

Mr. Sundar, Associate Vice President, Education and Research, Global Education Centre, Infosys, Mysore addressed the students on 7 February 2015 on the topic “Ethical practices in IT” as a part of the course “Ethics and Values in Management”. He gave insights as to how People, Process and Products are the components of ethical process in IT and illustrated it with a case study of Infosys. He elaborated on the value systems at Infosys, C-Life, which is an acronym for Client value, Leading by example, Integrity and Excellence. The talk was followed by a lively question and answer session. Some of the students took this opportunity to interview him as a part of Activity Based Learning cell.

E Cell Swayam of SDMIMD organized a guest talk with a view to strengthening Business Planning competence in SDMIMD students.  The talk was delivered by its Alumnus Mr. Harinath G on January 9, 2015, the topic was "Different ways of funding start up projects and pro and cons of the same and different debt options available for start-ups along with the expectations of lenders". 
 
Mr. Harinath G, has vast experience in Finance specializing in Debt Structuring for various Business Needs. He was  associated with Debt Syndication initiatives   of over Rs 250 Crores  and has handled more than 25 assignments across various sectors.

Invited talks on 'Economic Outlook for India'

Prof. Gita Gopinath, Professor in Economics, Harvard University, gave interesting insights into macro-economic aspects and specific growth parameters for the Indian economy in an invited talk organized at Institute Auditorium in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Mysore on December 20, 2014. On this occasion, Mr. Venkatesh Valluri, Chairman & President, Ingersoll Rand India delivered a talk on the topic ‘Building Organizations Fit for the Future’. Among several interesting suggestions for shaping organizations in the days to come, Mr. Venkatesh Valluri urged students to become entrepreneurs and develop a frame of mind which is innovative. Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD and Mr. R.C. Jagadesh, CII Chairman Mysore, expressed their brief views on the talks delivered, which was followed by a Question and Answer session.

Talk on Leadership Qualities of Swami Vivekananda

Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Founder Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, delivered a talk on “Vivekananda – The leader” at SDMIMD on December 8, 2014. The talk was organised under the combined aegis of Vivekananda Chair at Department of Philosophy, University of Mysore and Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore. The speaker spoke about the five characteristics of a great leader – Compassion, Optimism, Faith, Humour and Mindfulness, citing examples from the lives and the works of Swami Vivekananda
He talked of the need to translate the vision into action through the instrumentality of the Heart to feel, the Head to think and the Hand to execute the action. The talk was followed up with a lively question and answers session. Dr. H.L. Chandrashekar, the Chairman, Department of Philosophy, Mysore University, Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD and Prof. Govinda Sharma, SDMIMD, were present.

MD Speaks on Leadership Traits

Mr. Rajendra C Mruthyunjayappa, Managing Director, APAC & EMEA at Talisma Corporation Pvt. Ltd., with rich experience in Campus Management’s Asia-Pacific and Europe operations was the invited speaker on November 28, 2014. Mr. Rajendra shared the success story of Talisma Corporation Pvt. Ltd., with the topic ‘Story of Talisma & Leadership traits’. 

Talk on Market Research for Marketing Strategy

Ms. Saroj Sridhar, Feedback Business Consulting, delivered a special talk on the topic ‘How Marketing Research helps in formulating Marketing Strategy?’ on November 27, 2014 at the Institute Auditorium.

Swayam's invited talk by Alumnus

Mr. Vijay Kumar A.S. alumnus of SDMIMD and independent Investment Advisory & Wealth Management; and, Principle Associate for ING Financial Services, visited the campus upon the invitation by Swayam - the entrepreneurial cell of SDMites on Sunday, November 16, 2014. The invited talk focused on the preparation and presentation of Business Plan (B-Plan). In his talk Mr. Vijay touched upon the intricacies of  a B-Plan and explained its impact on business, taking examples from his experience. Corporate profiling, Investment Life Cycle of a Business, importance of valuation, entrepreneurial approaches & resource requirements, were some of the few other topics covered by speaker​.

Talk on "ERP Journey at the Multinational"

Mr. Venkatesh S. Rao a Business Consultant delivered an invited talk on "ERP Journey at a Multinational" on November 15, 2014. The success stories shared by Mr. Venkatesh during his talk were very inspiring.

Agony of progeny when India failed Bhopal

The guest talk on October 14, 2014 by Mr. Satinath Sarangi (Sathyu) was an eye opener for the young managers at SDMIMD on how to think the concept ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ sensibly. The talk was scheduled after the play “Agony of progeny: when India failed Bhopal” featured on the 30 year old Bhopal Gas tragedy, which was one of the world's worst industrial disasters. The student interaction triggered the discourse on the issues in Bhopal, corporate accountability and environmental justice. Mr. Sathyu, is a prominent activist and leader of the campaign for justice for the Bhopal victim, has been engaged with the health care of the gas and water affected survivors of Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
