Guest talk by Mr. Nagi Rao

Mr. Nagi Rao, Founder, Chairman, Austin, TX; and  Founder, Chairman of EqualizeRCM Services; delivered an invited talk to the PGDM 2018-20 Batch on July 18, 2019, at SDMIMD. 
 
Mr. Nagi Rao spoke on how healthcare management has involved over the years. Mr. Rao stressed on how RCM is used as a corporate-level maintenance strategy to optimize the maintenance program of a company or facility. His highly interesting talk evoked a number of questions from the audience and on the whole, the session was highly interesting and instructive.

‘Marketing demands good communication skills apart from a good knowledge about global happenings including such topics like GDP, economic indicators, demographics, and social media. Social media is replacing many other forms of communication including the telephone calls’ thus said Dr. Pradeep A. Rau, Professor of Marketing and International Business, The George Washington University, Washington, DC, the USA during the invited talk organized on July 12, 2019. 

 
Dr. Rau emphasized the role of advertisement and brand building to develop customers on an international scale. Raising questions about India’s capabilities, he provided insight into the possible changes in the future including a shift of the world’s trade towards China and India. In his talk, he stressed on the need to improve the manufacturing capabilities in India if India is to be seen as the future’s manufacturing hub. The talk touched upon several aspects of global business and management education. Dr. Rau kept the session interactive by involving the students in question-answer discussion. He also informed the students about the benefits of studying an MBA program and also about the differences between the US and the Indian students. 

Talk by Dr. Thandavamurthy on 'Vedic Healing'

Dr. Thandavamurthy delivered session on "Vedic Healing" on July 5, 2019, which introduced the new batch of PGDM Program on - how to stay focused, how to stay calm and achieve success, and how to avoid confusion. Dr. Thandavamurthy engaged the students with simple activities which were fun as well allowed learning in a new way. The students participated with full enthusiasm and even laughed heartily as they experienced a different way of learning. The speaker explained how it is possible to get misled due to a mismatch between what we see and how we respond. These learning are helpful to budding managers. Dr. Thandavamurthy also suggested some readings and practices to the students to improve their productivity and efficiency. The session was enjoyed by the students.

Invited talk on Advertisement by Mr. Kishore

Mr. Kishore Subramanianan, Executive Director, Mullen Lintas, addressed the new Batch of PGDM Program on July 5, 2019. Speaking about advertising and its evolution, Mr. Kishore detailed how religious institutions have been using advertisements since time immemorial. The speaker demonstrated with examples on how the power of advertisements was elucidated in rewriting the traditions. Speaking on the contemporary trends of involving the customers in developing advertisements, Mr. Kishore discussed the Apple and Gopro case. The talk was acknowledged with great appreciations and applause by the apprised and delighted audience.

Talk on Leadership by Mr. Premkumar

On 4th July 2019 Mr. Premkumar, Head of Admin and Infrastructure, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, delivered insightful talk to PGDM 2019-21 batch, as a part of their Orientation program. The talk focused on leadership skills and the necessity of constantly monitoring the abilities of leadership. Referring the book ‘The Elephant Catchers’ penned by Subroto Bagchi, the speaker made comparisons of leadership with catching elephants and spoke vividly about the four types of leadership.  The ‘Ninjas’ who are the real executors, the ‘Coaches’ who share knowledge, the ‘Thought leaders’  were the astrologers of the future and the ‘Rainmakers’ who are always thinking and creating something out of nothing. His talk about leadership was highly inspiring.

Mr. Shankar Prasad, Sr. Manager - Educational Services, Excel Soft Technologies Pvt Ltd., addressed the new batch of the PGDM Program on July 4, 2019 on ‘Facets of Management’. The speaker comprehensively discussed on the agility of the MBA program and the worth of thinking out of the box and being unpredictable. Mr. Shankar opined that there is nothing called ‘last word’ in management. 
 
Discussing on the new education policy and its implications discussed on how American franchised network organization, Business Networking International changed the educational service scenario. The speaker with his rich experience in the educational service support helped the young managers to get the doubts clarified pertaining to educational policy and norms. 

Invited talk on Advertisement

Mr S. Chandramouli, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Feedback Business Consulting Services Ltd., addressed the PGDM 2019-21 students during their orientation programme held on July 3, 2019. Mr Chandramouli focused his talk introducing the importance of advertisement in today’s competitive business environment. Further, the speaker shared his experiences in the field of advertising and media in building successful brands. The session concluded with the Q&A.

‘Confidence is good, but over-confidence is bad. Confidence is very important in life for everyone. But when a person becomes over-confident, he takes such great risks as are beyond his capacity to deal with successfully. It is like fighting against the laws of nature, which is the mistake committed by the millennials most of the time’ thus said Ms. Shoba Arun, Head C-TEA Corporate Technology & Engineering Academy, L & T, Mysuru, during the invited talk delivered to the PGDM 2019-21 Batch organized as a part of the orientation program held on July 2, 2019.
 
Ms. Shoba gave her views about the first generation of digital natives, so called “The Millennials”. She threw light on how these millennials are altering the very social fabric of the world, how they are disrupting retail, hospitality, transportation, environment and travel, how they will soon radically change higher education and how they are disrupting the work culture?
 
She acknowledged us about the six functional changes of millennials compared to the previous generations which is called the “Big Six”. This was followed by Question & Answers session. 

Interactive Session on Product Management

On 22nd June 2019, SDMIMD organized an interactive session on ‘Product Management’ as a part of its Prerana – Alumni Lecture Series, with Mr. Rajnikanth Urs M.C., Regional Product Manager for Asia Pacific and Japan, HP Asia Pacific Pte Ltd., as the distinguished speaker.
 
‘Attitude, persistence, patience, the ability to understand the customers and present the right solutions are the core skill set required to be successful in the field’ thus said Mr. Rajinikanth Urs, while sharing his insights on qualities and skills that were instrumental in making him a successful product manager for Asia Pacific region at HP.
 
In his address, Mr. Urs spoke about Product Management and threw light on its different aspects which included, product life cycle, competitor analysing, customer requirement, identifying the gaps in the present market, planning for a product in terms of features and budget and further, deciding a plan to launch the same. 
 
The session was concluded with Mr. Urs addressing the queries raised by students with respect to the topic and pertaining to a career in Sales and Marketing.
