Prerana - SDMIMD Talk by Mr A Ravi Shankar

SDMIMD Alumnus Mr N. Ravi Shankar, Co-Founder & CEO, Aim High Consulting, delivered the talk as part of the 'Inspiring Alumni Story' series on July 24, 2021. Mr Ravi Shankar shared the success story of AIM High Consulting with the alumni and students on campus. The talk was organized by Prerana, the alumni association, and SDMIMD.

Prerana - SDMIMD Talk by Mr Achuta Bachalli

Prerana, the Alumni Association and SDMIMD invited Mr Achutha Bachalli, Founder, Unilog Content Solutions, to deliver an invited talk on June 26, 2021. The talk 'My Story - Journey of an Entrepreuner' was organized as part of the Entrepreneur Series for the benefit of alumni and students on campus. 

Talk by Mr. Pramod Padmaprabhaiah

SDMIMD organized a talk by alumnus Mr Pramod Padmaprabhaiah as part of the Prerana Alumni Lecture Series on November 25, 2019.  Mr Pramod is currently working with NTT Data Services as Global Enterprise Applications Leader.
 
In his talk, Mr Pramod presented the concept of ‘Gig Economy’ and explained how small activities become a part of Gig Economy extending a monetary benefit. Mr Pramod mentioned that scaling some activities in terms of monetary value can be a complex task at times and the law-making bodies find it difficult to make policies for these. It is believed that 2023 over 6 million people will be a part of the Gig Economy. The speaker explained how Bloggers, Youtubers, Craftspeople, Stack photographers, Freelancers, Software and Web designers constitute and influence Gig Economy. Further, he touched upon the characteristics of the Gig economy with examples of ‘Kaggle’ and ‘Amazon Mechanical Turk’.  The talk concluded with the discussion on the four major connections in the Gig Economy i.e. Place, Routines, Purpose and People.  

Prerana Alumni Lecture by Mr. Feroze Azeez

On August 12, 2019, a guest talk was organized for Second year students who have taken Finance Specialization of PGDM 2018-20 Batch by Mr. Feroze Azeez, PGDM Alumnus 2003-05 Batch; and, Deputy CEO, Anand Rathi Private Wealth Management, Mumbai, under Prerana Alumni Lecture Series. Mr. Feroze gave insights on the career opportunities in the area of Financial Derivatives and elucidated about the different financial derivatives products available in the current market. 
 
Mr. Feroze called upon the young managers to analyse their strengths and identify a niche for themselves to grow in the present corporate world. Mr. Feroze also stated that it is essential to have a curiosity to learn new things and tap opportunities for a successful career. The session was interactive and interesting with the active participation of the students in the discussion.

Invited talk on ‘Innovation Based Thinking’ by Alumnus

The Prerana Lecture Series 2019 organized invited talk on August 3, 2019, for PGDM 2019-21. The talk demystified “Innovation” and how the same can help position the product in buyer’s mind. In the hyper-competitive markets, Innovation as positioning clarity, provides the much-needed edge that helps organizations compete, acquire and keep customers. Most importantly, customer acquisition drives up revenues and can drive economies. With this background Mr. Rajesh Ballakoor, an alumnus of SDM-IMD from 95-97 batch along with Mr Krish Ramamurthy, an Industry veteran, delivered the invited talk on topic ‘Demystifying Innovation driven Customer Acquisition’. 

Interactive Session on Product Management

On 22nd June 2019, SDMIMD organized an interactive session on ‘Product Management’ as a part of its Prerana – Alumni Lecture Series, with Mr. Rajnikanth Urs M.C., Regional Product Manager for Asia Pacific and Japan, HP Asia Pacific Pte Ltd., as the distinguished speaker.
 
‘Attitude, persistence, patience, the ability to understand the customers and present the right solutions are the core skill set required to be successful in the field’ thus said Mr. Rajinikanth Urs, while sharing his insights on qualities and skills that were instrumental in making him a successful product manager for Asia Pacific region at HP.
 
In his address, Mr. Urs spoke about Product Management and threw light on its different aspects which included, product life cycle, competitor analysing, customer requirement, identifying the gaps in the present market, planning for a product in terms of features and budget and further, deciding a plan to launch the same. 
 
The session was concluded with Mr. Urs addressing the queries raised by students with respect to the topic and pertaining to a career in Sales and Marketing.

Prerana Alumni Lecture Series 2019

 
On 19th January 2019, SDMites organized Technical Session by Prerana – SDMIMD Alumni Association, for the first year PGDM students. SDMIMD Alumnus Mr. Niranjan Naik, National Sales Head, Bosch, and Secretary, Prerana, delivered talk on ‘Strategic Management’ and Mr. Abhijith M.K., VP, Reliceli Bangalore, delivered the session on ‘Sales and Marketing as a career - with relevance to Industry 4.0’.
 
Mr. Niranjan Naik, in his speech gave a brief about Bosch’s energy and building solutions. Mr. Naik emphasised on the market oriented strategic planning which is a significant managerial process of developing and maintaining a viable fit between an organisational objective or skills, resources, and its changing market opportunities. He also focused on the strategic planning action areas which includes managing companies or businesses as an investment portfolio; assessing each business activity by considering market’s growth rate and company’s position and fit in that market; developing a strategy (game plan) to achieve long run objectives. He also highlighted that four levels in a strategic planning viz. the corporate level, division level, business level and product service level. He then elucidated the difference between a strategic plan and a business plan in terms of their respective objectives, tenure and focal points. Further, he enunciated the different components of a strategic plan and a business plan.
 
Mr. Abhijith M K in his speech, shared his experiences in the field of sales and marketing, He narrated the challenges he had faced at the threshold of his career in the field of sales. Mr. Abhijith stated that, the students should be ready to face challenges and mange it well when they take up a career in the field of sales and marketing. He opined that, different industries and markets follow the same concepts but adopt different methodologies. He also requested students to have a firm conviction and never give up during turbulent times. He further added that, in order to be successful in this career, it is essential to do things differently and tap every opportunity that comes by. Mr. Abhijith concluded his speech by enlightening the students about the business with relevance to the industry 4.0
 
The session was concluded with a question and answer forum wherein the students took an active part.

Prerana - Alumni Talk by Mr. Sudhindra

Mr. Sudhindra K.S. of 1999-2001 batch was on campus to deliver a talk on "IT Industry: Opportunities and expectation from Management Graduates" on December 22, 2018, to the PGDM 2018-20 Batch. 
 
Mr. Sudhindra has gained good experience in driving sustainable business value through DevOps, Lean and Agile Transformation at Philips. His talk related to these experiences. He stated that the lack of knowledge on how an industry operates results in many people getting rejected in the interviews, despite having scores.  

Interactive Session on Wealth Management

An interactive session on ‘Wealth Management’ was organized by Preraran – SDMIMD Alumni Association on December 22, 2018. Mr. Vijay Kumar M., Independent Financial Adviser and alumnus of PGDM Program delivered the session.
 
Students from PGDM Program with finance specialization attended the sessions. The session commenced with drawing up ideas from the students ranging from various investment avenues to career opportunities in the field of finance. The speaker briefed about the various investment avenues which yield high returns to the investors and said, ‘in today’s dynamic business economy, there is no proper financial planning and quality advise for the investors which include lack of trust factor and continuity which is very crucial’.
 
Mr. Vijay Kumar then enunciated the benefits of a term insurance plan for an investor and his family. In his talk, sir also threw light on the financial pyramid, the process of which involves, protection planning (investing in insurance schemes), emergency cash flow planning (an investment in an emergency fund), debt reduction planning (considering loans) and investment planning (for achieving goals).
 
Mr. Vijay Kumar emphasized that, for a financial adviser to be successful, the process of financial planning needs to be done objectively and scientifically and it is essential for a financial adviser to have a follow up with clients, review their investments annually and involve them completely in the process of financial planning and wealth management. He reiterated that time spent in the market matters for making a worthwhile investment and it is not timing the market that matters.
 
The session was concluded with students seeking clarifications from Mr. Vijay Kumar on various aspect of finance and wealth management.

Prerana Alumni Lecture Series - Mr. Suraj Shetty

Mr. Suraj Shetty, Vice President - Strategy, Primesoft; and alumnus of PGDM 2003-05 batch, was on campus to deliver a harangue on the topic 'IT Services Marketing' for the 2nd Year PGDM Students. With his rich experience of more than 10 years in the IT Service industry, Mr. Suraj explained the different types of IT services a company can offer. Mr. Suraj stressed the importance of cloud in the IT industry and the use of email marketing. The session had a detailed discussion on how to convert potential customers in B2B marketing.
