KPMG Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB) Certification Program

Lean Six Sigma is a function agnostic useful tool for every business executive across functions. The 32-hours KPMG's LSSGB Training and Certification Program spread over 4-days was organized for PGDM 2018-20 Batch Operation Specialization students during November-December 2019. The program covered DMAIC methodology and framework of problem-solving techniques using Lean and Six Sigma tools. 
 
The program was conducted in a Workshop mode which involved theory and application of tools and techniques in a simulated environment.  It has imparted structured problem-solving skills to the participants and given them an edge over others by making them business-ready.

Workshop on Strategic Management

Dr Sebastian Chantelot, Director of La Rochelle Business School & Vice Dean – Academics of Excelia Group conducted a workshop for the 2nd year PGDM students of SDMIMD on 15th and 16th November 2019. The theme of the workshop was “Strategic Management”
 
Dr Sebastian gave insights about global strategic management practices and also elucidated the strategies for sustainability and development in the industry. He also discussed the strategic process which includes, strategic position, strategic choices and change management and which needs to be incorporated in the business practices. He also explained the different techniques of identifying the competitive advantages and key resources of an organisation. 
 
Dr Sebastian also elaborated the Strategic Innovation aspects which are key to the success of business in today’s competitive business environment. He also discussed the various CSR and Stakeholder Management practices to be adopted by the business houses to ensure sustainable growth and development of the organisation.
 
The workshop was interesting and interactive which was followed by a case study given by him for analysis, where the students made a presentation and took an active part in the discussion of the case.

Workshop on "Development Banking and Inclusive Growth"

A Pre-Conference Workshop on “Development Banking and Inclusive Growth: Emerging Trends” was organised on November 14, 2019 as a part of 5th International Economics Conference – 2019 (IEC 2019). The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Srinivas Acharya, Managing Director, Sundaram BNP Paribas Home Finance Ltd. In his inaugural address, Mr. Acharya spoke about Infrastructure Finance and emphasized upon the changing economy and banking culture and proposed a solution in a witty remark; saying that risk management should be married to technology. He concluded his speech stating that banks take more time to evolve and change to match the trend, hence the government should aid development banking to balance the economy.

Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director, welcomed the participants. Dr. B. Venkatraja, workshop coordinator, introduced the theme and background.

The one-day workshop has deliberated on the various dimensions of the theme. Mr. Pankil Sanghvi, Partner at BDO India LLP addressed the gathering on Indian policy and regulatory aspects relating to development banking and their macro-economic impact. Mr. Surya Panda, Head-Credit, Samasta Microfinance Ltd. was the other invited resource person and he shared his perspectives of development banking from the angle of microfinance. Dr. Yashavantha Dongre, Professor (Rtd.), Commerce, University of Mysore, overviewed the issues of dual regulation, size and governance in Indian co-operative banking.

The growth implications of the current banking crisis were deliberated through a panel discussion.  Mr. K P Pradyumna, Ex- Chief Lead District Manager, Lead Bank, Dr. Narayan Kayarkatte, Ex-Banker & Academician and Dr. Yashavantha Dongre, UOM were the expert panellists. The discussion was moderated by Dr. B. Venkatraja, Asst. Prof. Economics, SDMIMD. 

2-Day Workshop by Kennesaw State University professor

Dr. Sheb True, Professor of Marketing, Interim Director – MBA Programs, Coles Colleges of Business, Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, United States, conducted 2-Day workshop on ‘Strategic Positioning and Leadership’ on October 18 &19, 2019 at SDMIMD. The workshop was organized for the focused group of PGDM 2019-21 Batch marketing specialization students.

Workshop on Empirical Research in Finance

A Pre-Conference Workshop on Empirical Research in Finance was organized on September 5, 2019, for the researchers and faculty members in the area of finance and accounts at SDMIMD. Inaugurating the workshop, Dr N.R Parasuraman, Director and Professor - Finance, SDMIMD, brought out the importance of corporate finance and the emerging trends in the field. Dr K.A. Venkatesh, Professor at Myanmar Institute of Information Technology; Dr P. Janaki Ramudu, Professor – Finance, and Dean - Academics at IMT Nagpur; and Dr M. Sriram, Faculty-Finance, SDMIMD, Mysore; were the resource persons. 

Workshop on Conducting an Effective Interview

Conducting interviews in organizations for selecting the right candidates for specific job requirements requires understanding of specific aspects that revolve around the interview process. It is not a mechanical process but involves deep understanding of certain critical issues. Keeping this in mind, SDMIMD conducted a company specific program ‘Workshop on Conducting an Effective Interview’ for Theorem India Pvt Ltd. on 29 and 30 August 2019. The two-day workshop covered various issues in the context of pre-interview preparation, managing the Interview process, and, post interview Process, were deliberated. The workshop included role play activities, case study discussions and group activities, to sensitize the participants about various nuances of conducting the interview process in a positive manner. Dr. Mousumi Sengupta and Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor(s) in the area of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, SDMIMD were the resource persons. Prof. Malathi Sriram, was the Program Coordinator.

Workshop on Consultancy Management

Dr R. Kasthuri Rangan, Strategic Management Consultant, conducted a workshop on 'Consultancy Management' for the PGDM 2018-20 Batch on August 12, 2019. In his interaction with the students, Dr R. Kasthuri Rangan gave insights on consultancy business and the opportunities available to build a career in this field. Further, the workshop educated the student participants on the unorganized consulting market in India and the performance of major consultancy business extended to the US. The workshop held the students to understand various frameworks and the discussion focused on Visibility Credibility Matrix and Strategic Agility Model. The second half of the workshop focused on the management consulting process in a firm and how to write a consulting proposal. The concepts were further detailed through case analysis and application of concepts on how to write a proposal. The session was interactive and interesting for the students as they received an enriching insight on consultancy management.

Workshop on Neuro Management and Leadership

As part of the exchange arrangement with EAE Business School, Spain, a 4-Day Workshop on “Neuro management and Neuro leadership" was organized for the benefit of Second Year students during July 15 to 18, 2019. The workshop revolved around the essentials for becoming a powerful leader and a team player in today’s dynamic corporate world. 
 
Prof. Alexia threw light on the basic emotions of an individual and emphasized on the two common emotions which are love and fear. She gave insights on Cognitive dissonance and Social Dissonance. Prof. Alexia also elucidated about the mind empowerment and the positive impact created by it on the productivity of an individual. The program was interesting and inquisitive and was instrumental in providing an enriched learning experience for the students.

Workshop on 'Brands' by Dr Shilpa Iyanna

A 2-day workshop on Branding and Brand Management was conducted by the Faculty from the University of Abu Dhabi, UAE, Dr Shilpa Iyanna, Associate Professor of Marketing, College of Business.  She made students experience the journey of brand building. The workshop was organized as a part of the faculty exchange program since SDMIMD has a tie-up with the University of Abu Dhabi.

The day-1 covered the topics on 'brands', how brands are built, models that help in building up a brand and the importance of a brand from a consumer perspective. Discussion on internal and external factors that influences the marketing of a brand, importance of culture, cross-culture and challenges faced, were discussed. The day-2 discussed various cases pertaining to top brands and their advertising techniques. 

Workshop on 'Controlling a Project' by Prof Aro-Gordon

Dr Stephen Aro-Gordon, Professor, Department of Business and Accounting, Muscat College, Sultanate of Oman; conducted a workshop on "Controlling a Project: Understanding the Earned Value Management (EVM) Technique" for the finance specialization students of PGDM 2017-19 Batch on June 7 & 8, 2019 at SDMIMD. Dr Aro Gordon has been earlier associated with the Institute as an Adjunct Faculty.
