2-Day Workshop for Institutional Heads

 
SDMIMD joined hands with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Southern Regionin organizing the workshop for institutional heads and chairpersons on the theme 'Restructuring and Redesigning of Higher Education Programs in India' during January 24 & 25, 2018 at SDMIMD Mysore. 
 
The Workshop was intended to address the industry needs in terms of Knowledge, Skills and Aptitude being developed among the B School students through inputs in the MBA/PGDM curriculum and to discuss the challenges faced in the form of changing business environment, demographic changes in the environment, the issue of 'dynamic business  vs static education'. The inaugural Welcome Addess was delivered by Mr Arjun Ranga, MD, N Ranga Rao and Sons and Chairman of CII Mysore Chapter. The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof Joe Philip, Chairman- XIME Group of Institutions and the Special Address was delivered by Prof Prasad SN, SDMIMD.  The sessions were chaired by Dr S Balasubramaniam, Director GRG Group of Institutions, Coimbatore. Several eminent educationists and corporate heads conducted the technical sessions.
 
The program was attended by 62 delegates from various colleges and universities across South India. 

Workshop on CSR by Dr. Evelyne Gross

Dr. Evelyn Gross from the - Burgundy School of Business, France  conducted  a workshop on ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ on December 21 & 22, 2017 at SDMIMD. The workshop discussed about various ways of imbibing  corporate social responsibility. The speaker presented the CSR activities happening in various nations. Dr. Evelyn Gross discussed real-time examples of various kinds of scenarios from France. The workshop was very impactful and gave a new way of thinking about CSR. 

Workshop on MORO by Dr. Fabrice Galia

Dr. Fabrice Galia conducted a Workshop on Management of Responsible Organizations (MORO) for the II year students on December 21 & 22, 2017. The workshop demonstrated the strategies, innovation and kind of management. Dr. Galia spoke about how to be acquainted with, to understand and to be capable of explaining the behaviour of individuals and groups within an organization and also on how to understand the principal dimensions of the analysis of the organization.

Pre-Conference HR Workshop

The 6th Edition of International Conference on “Managing Human Resources at the workplace” organized Pre-Conference HR Workshop on ‘Managing today’s employees: Issues and concerns’ on December 7, 2017. The workshop focused on  contemporary topics, such as, work-life balance, talent retention, and psychological contract. Dr. Ahsley Pinningon, Dean -Research, BUiD; Mr.  Shama Sundar, CEO & President Paajaka Consultancy Service; Mr. Dwarakanath, Principal Advisor, National Education Foundation (NEF), Washington D.C.; and Mr.  Prem Kamble, Trainer and Management consultant; are the resource persons. More than 40 Research scholars, academicians and HR professionals, participated in the workshop. 

Workshop on Sustainable Inclusive Growth

One-day workshop on “Inclusive Sustainable Growth: Challenges of Change” was held at SDMIMD on November 9, 2017. Dr. Parameshwar P Iyer, Principal Research Scientist at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore delivered keynote address. He spoke on Sustainability in Management of Technology. Dr.N.R.Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, speaking during the inaugural session emphasised on the need for financial and corporate sustainability for the holistic growth to sustain.  Dr.Rangan Varadan, Founder and CEO,  MicroGram delivered a lecture on the role of micro finance and micro finance institutions in inclusive sustainable growth in Indian context. Dr.R. Indira, Professor of Sociology (Rtd.) & Former Director of International Center, explored all dimensions of the idea of development in India with special emphasis on inclusion of women and marginalised in the society in the development process for sustainability. Dr. Brahm Sharma, Director, AIMS Center of Sustainability, Bangalore has familiarized the industrial perspectives of sustainability detailing the concepts of geothermal power plants, wave energy, smart cities, urban farming and agricultural improvement as popular viable techniques for the current scenario. A Panel with eminent resource persons including Dr.N.R.Parasuraman, . Dr.R. Indira and Dr. Brahm Sharma discussed the emerging research issues and avenues in the area of inclusive sustainable growth. The panel was moderated by DR.M.R.Suresh. Professor, SDMIMD. The workshop was coordinated by Dr.B.Venkatraja, Assistant Professor, SDMIMD. 

Entrepreneurship workshop by Dr Pavan Soni

Dr. Pavan Soni, CEO and Founder of Inflexion Consulting, conducted ‘Entrepreneurship Workshop’ on September 21, 2017 for the PGDM 2016-18 Batch. Dr. Pavan Soni an innovation evangelist explained the forces behind the rise in entrepreneurs in India and the rest of the world. Quoting examples of entrepreneurs who have made it big, presented the status report of entrepreneurship world to the young mangers. 
 
The workshop included group activity. Each group presented the scenario on a selected sector focused on entrepreneur problems, customer, and employee perspective. The 5 step process which includes discovery, interpretation, ideation, experimentation and evolution, was exercised in this activity lead to the Empathy mapping, Pain-gain Analysis, and, Day in a life scenario. 
 
True to the saying ‘a problem fully understood is half solved’, Dr. Soni stressed upon the importance of identifying a problem and finding a solution and then converting it into a business. 

Pre Conference Workshop On Contemporary Issues in Finance, Accounting and Banking

Mr. S.N. Ananthasubramaniam, Past President, ICSI, New Delhi and Senior Partner in M/S Ananthasubramaniam & Co, inaugurated the One-day Pre-Conference Workshop on Contemporary Issues in Finance, Accounting and Banking on 17th August, 2017. The inaugural session by Mr. Ananthasubramaniam focussed on nuances of Corporate Governance norms and its mechanism in companies listed in stock exchanges. 
 
The workshop sessions by Dr. Krishna Prasanna, Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, introduced research issues in Fixed Income Securities Market; the session by Mr. Rajat Singh, Chief Operating Officer, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, discussed on the opportunities and challenges for Micro-finance Institutions. Further explained how micro-finance has gone through implementing financial inclusion of the Government. 
 
The panel discussion on ‘Empirical Research in Finance- Topics, Analysis and Models’ was spearheaded by Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director and Professor-Finance, SDMIMD; and Mr. B. Shivakumar, Chartered Accountant, Dr .Krishna Prasanna, IIT Madras; Dr. Durga Prasad Samantaray, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia; were the members. The panel discussion addressed various facets of teaching, research and publications in Finance. 
 
Earlier, Dr. M. Sriram, Conference Chair, welcomed the gathering and presented the theme of the workshop.
 

Workshop on Effective Business Negotiation

As the business environment is increasingly becoming competitive and complex, it is critical for managers to equip themselves with negotiating skills. With this objective SDMIMD conducted a Workshop on Effective Business Negotiation on July 21, 2017 to the executives of Supreem Pharmaceuticals Mysore Pvt. Ltd., at SDMIMD Campus.  The workshop was designed and offered by Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director and Professor in Marketing. This 1-day workshop was well received by the corporate world.

Workshop on Leadership

The new mantra at B-schools is ‘Becoming a leader’ and learning about leadership is the in thing in any management institute. This trend has emerged as the objective of prospective young managers in recent times. Along with the key specializations offered, B-School students’ demands learning about leadership to meet the corporate and entrepreneurship need of the day. To meet this need a 3-Day workshop on Leadership was organized during July 12 to 14, 2017 for the PGDM 2016-18 Batch.   Dr. Prakash K. Nair, Independent Consultant and Leadership Trainer, introduced the world of leadership and discussed on the nuances of good leadership during the session. 

Workshop on ‘Power of Self’ to SDMites

John Anster says ‘What you can do, or dream you can, begin it; Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!’ Our future may not be entirely within our control, but most of what we become is within our power to create. To understand this it requires a self-directed learning process, a clear roadmap and guidance on how to increase the effectiveness of change within you.  To introduce the students about the hidden power within them a series of workshop on the theme ‘The Power of Self’ was organized for the batch of PGDM 2016-18 during July 2017 by Dr. H. Gayathri, Dean Academics and Professor – Marketing.
