Interaction with Ms. Lekshmi Bhargavi

Our world is built on ideas. Ms. Lekshmi Bhargavi, HR at Toyota Financial Services, an alumnus of SDMIMD, thus started her speech while she addressed the first year PGDM batch here on 16th November, 2013. Ms. Lekshmi gave an insight into how a case study should be analyzed and how to form the solutions, how to make presentations and the importance of self-branding. More emphasis was laid on the integrity to be followed at the workplace.

150th Birth year Celebrations of Swami Vivekananda

“The country can see a radical change if the youth advocated the principles and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda”, thus opined the Social Activist Chakravarthy Soolibele. He was speaking at the 150th Year Birthday Celebration of Swami Vivekananda held on November 16, 2013. Presiding over the function Swami Nirmalanandanathaji of Adhichunchanagiri Mutt said ‘Science should be understood in a religious background to analyze the facts better’. He also stressed upon a point that criticisms should be fact based and never should impulsive and irrational. Later, Dr. K Chidananda Gowda Former Vice Chancellor Kuvempu University also spoke on the occasion. 

Kannada Rajyothsava Celebration

Festive look and activities made it different to SDMIMD Campus on 15th November 2013, Friday.  The day was fixed to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava.  Chappara, Maavina Torana, Rangoli, posters and pictures of eminent personalities gave perfect scene for the occasion which gave a different look to the Mess and surrounding areas. SDMites enjoyed the state’s traditional food during lunch. It was a treat for non kannadigas too, as they took part in singing kannada songs and fun games. The students enthralled the crowd at Basket Ball Court with songs and dance. Motor Cycle stunt by Mr. Ahmed was a thrill to watch. 

SDMites lead in BRICS Quiz Competition at China

The Association of BRICS Business Schools (ABBS) held their 5th  Biennial Conference this year at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, at Songjiang Shanghai, China on October 27, 2013. The conference was host to premier b-schools from BRICS countries. SDMIMD, PSG, XIME, Hindustan were the premier B-schools participated from India. As a part of this international meet, a quiz on the contemporary topics in business and management was conducted in teams of 4 comprising of participated b-school students from different countries. The team members were required to answer questions about the other BRICS country, from which the member was not included in the team.  Mr. Syam Thomas of SDMIMD PGDM 12-14 Batch participated in the round about Russia and Mr. Alok Shenoy of SDMIMD PGDM 12-14 Batch participated in the round about China. The teams won first and second prizes respectively in this BRICS B-School Quiz competition. 

Violin Duet by Lalgudi ‘Bani’ torch bearers

Kalanubhav is a student body at SDMIMD student committee formed with the objective of propagating all forms of Indian art to the students of the Institute who are drawn from all parts of the country.  This year Kalaanubhav has organized a Violin Duet by Lalgudi G J R Krishnan & Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi on November 18, 2013 at 4:30 PM in its campus Amphitheater at Chamundi Hill Road, Mysore. This cultural event is open for public. 
 
About the Artists 
 
Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan
 
In the sphere of Carnatic music, the name Lalgudi G J R Krishnan is instantly associated with melody, rhythm, masterly technique on the violin and overall musical excellence. Born in the lineage of the great Saint and Composer Shri Thyagaraja, he was meticulously groomed by his father and Guru, the great legend Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman. Raised in an atmosphere redolent of sublime, divine music, Krishnan has metamorphosed into an outstanding musician. 
 
“Sangeetha Choodamani”, “Nadhabhushanam”, “Kalaimamani”, “Sangeetha Kalasagara” Lalgudi G J R Krishnan began his musical training at the tender age of five under the watchful guidance of his illustrious grandfather Lalgudi Gopala Iyer and has been honed to perfection by his illustrious father. His innate talent and the natural brilliance and musical ability combined with focused training and disciplined approach, has elevated him to a much sought after artiste and over the years he has carved an elevated niche for himself as a top-ranking violinist.
 
Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi
 
“Sangeetha Choodamani”, “Tantri Nada Mani”, Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, daughter and disciple of the great maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman, has been a worthy torch bearer of this great parampara. She has over the years contributed not only to the continuation of these unique bani, but has made it flourish further. The fifth generation musician in the family, Vijayalakshmi grew up in an atmosphere of reverberating, rich music. Early signs of her musical inclinations were apparent, when she was only two years old when even then, she could identify the solfa syllables in any musical phrase. These early trends were nurtured further when she commenced her lessons at the age of six under the watchful eyes of her perfectionist father. At the age of thirteen she went on stage for the first time with her father. Since then, she has been performing regularly in violin duets and trios with her father Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman and brother Krishnan. Over the years she has grown into a mature artiste and a violinist in her own right. She, along with her brother, Lalgudi Krishnan, is a leading exponent of the Lalgudi style, which is characterized by boundless innovation while strictly adhering to tradition and eloquently capturing the mood and essence of any composition.
 
Lalgudi G J R Krishnan & Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi will be accompanied by Vidwan H.S. Sudheendra on Mridangam and Vidwan G.S. Ramanujan on Ghatam

Talk on Mortgage Backed Securities

Ms. Anjali Mullatti, CEO & M.D, Finitiatives Learning India Pvt. Ltd held a special program on Mortgage Backed Securities for second year PGDM (System specialization) students at SDMIMD. This half-day programme held on 27th October turned out to be an enriching experience for students who got helpful insights on the subject from a renowned name in the field.Ms. Mullatti, an IIM Lucknow Alumnus has worked with top businesses like Blow Plast, Bank of America and Cognizant Technology Solutions over the years. She also co-founded Finitiatives Learning India Pvt (FLIP) Ltd that offers India’s largest range of e-learning and certifications in Banking & Finance.Needless to say there was a lot of excitement and anticipation amongst students about the programme, and they weren’t to be disappointed. During the programme Ms. Mullatti talked about several concepts like collateralized mortgage obligations, collateralized debt obligations, subprime mortgage crisis, residential mortgage-backed security and commercial mortgage-backed security. And she had her audience in rapt attention throughout.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP ACTIVTIES AT SDMIMD

                            

There were many events that happened as part of SDMIMD’s Entrepreneurship Cell initiatives.

  • Swayam – The entrepreneurship cell of SDMIMD was inaugurated on the 12th of September. Swayam is in collaboration with the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN). The chief guests wereMr. B.R. Pai, a well-renowned entrepreneur and the founder of CWF industries, Mysore, and Ms. Chaitali, NEN consultant. At the function the official logo of Swayam along with the Facebook page of Swayam was launched by Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director, SDMIMD. Ms. Chaitali narrated the story of how NEN was founded and how it grew from strength to strength. She also provided us the plan of activities that NEN will conduct at SDMIMD. Professor M.R. Suresh addressed the gathering about the importance of having entrepreneurship cells in insititutions and about the up coming B-Plan competition for the students of SDMIMD. It took two years to conceptualise the initiative and SDMIMD has signed an MoU with NEN. Mr. B.R. Pai shared his experiences with the gathering and gave insights into the current scenario for entrepreneurs in India. He also gave valuable tips to the budding entrepreneurs at SDMIMD
  • Mr. C. Balagopal, Senior Advisor at Terumo Penpol Ltd. & Director at Enter Technologies Pvt Ltd., delivered a talk on “Bureaucrat to Entrepreneur” on September 27, 2013 at SDMIMD. An IAS officer turned entrepreneur shared his ideas on start-ups and the importance of holding onto principles right from the initial stages.
  • On Oct 16, 6 students of SDMIMD, attended the E-leader workshop at Vidyavardaka college at Mysore and organised by NEN. The workshop introduced students to the concept of an e-leader and why it was required. There were a number of activities that conveyed the instincts of participants and how they can be avoided and also the necessary characteristics required for group or a team effort.
  • At present, as an ongoing experiential entrepreneurship activity, SDMIMD students have launched a chocolate making initiative as campus venture. The product is now retailed in campus canteen and during campus events.
  • 10 student teams have submitted their initial Business Plan as part of the run-up to theBusiness Plan competition to be held in Dec 2013 and evaluation is under process.
  • A case study competition for first year PGDM has also been announced.
  • Swayam - The Entrepreneurship Cell of SDMIMDorganised a 'Business plan and business model workshop' on the 18th of October for the participants of BigFuture, B-plan competition at SDMIMD in collaboration with NEN.The workshop was conducted by IIIT, Bangalore faculty Mr. Milind Priolkar and associated with BNA Technology Consulting as Executive VP.  Mr. Priolkar is also an entrepreneur and has vast experience in conducting workshops for entrepreneurs. There are no bad ideas. An idea just needs to fetch the right opportunity and a little modification, if necessary, was his advice to budding entrepreneurs at SDMIMD.

Times of India Deccan Herald | Star of Mysore

Prof Y Bhagavan Memorial Inter Collegiate State Level English Debate Competition jointly organized by Rotary Mid Town Mysore and Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development Mysore, was inaugurated this morning at the Institute's Auditorium. The event attracted 60 Debaters from various colleges within Karnataka. Mr L Govindaraj, Senior Advocate and close friend of Late Prof Y Bhagavan was the invited Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, veteran Advocate said, Prof Y Bhagavan was an outstanding and brilliant English Teacher and was known for his magical lectures. He called upon the modern youth to make good use of  modern electronic tools to enhance debating capabilities. He pointed out that there is vast difference between debates of yesteryear and modern times. Debates used to be for and against on any given issue, whereas, in the present times, one can elaborately talk on single sided issues viz. truth vs truth, right vs right and democracy vs democracy. Earlier, Rtn. S. Bhanu Chandran brought the gathering to order and welcomed the participants. Dr N.R. Parasuraman Director SDMIMD, in his talk,  said that the Institute was witnessing a major debate event and expressed his consent to conduct similar events in the future.
