Academic Tour to Dubai

Top Twenty students of SDMIMD of the PGDM batch 2013-15, in collaboration with the British University in Dubai (BUID), went on academic sojourn to Dubai. The students were in BUID from the 29th March, 2014 to 8th April, 2014. During their stay the students were exposed to the international management studies, culture and socio-economic environment of Middle East. The tour was carefully planned to integrate the academic insight with fun for the young aspiring managers.

Launch of Swayam Webpage

Swayam - the Entrepreneurship Cell (e-Cell) of SDMIMD was formally launched in September 2013. Swayam was conceptualized with the overall goal of giving a thrust to entrepreneurship related activities. These include student activities, supporting local entrepreneurs, knowledge creation and dissemination in this emerging area.
 

Children books donated to libraries

SDMIMD, in continuing its tradition to support the schools in general, their libraries in particular, has donated books to Sunanda School, Yadavagiri, Mysore; Odanadi Samsthae Library, Mysore; and, Bapuji Children Home, Gokulam, Mysore. The representative from the institute said that the aim of the programme was to help various sections of society and inculcate learning spirit and such initiatives will continue to be part SDMIMD activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Vishwas, Secretary, Sunanda School said that such programs will greatly support the schools in building comprehensive collection in their library and he also lauded the role of the SDMIMD students in this initiative. Mr. Parashuraman of Odanadi Samsthe, said that the donation will add value to the existing library. He thanked the institute for helping them to serve the society. Ms. Vanishree, Librarian, Pramathi Hill-View Academy, the SDMIMD staff members and the student volunteers, participated in the book distribution function. 

FDP on Innovative methods in Teaching HRM & OB

‘Innovative teaching methods and experiential learning in course delivery make the students industry-ready’ thus opined Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, Mysore, while inaugurating the 2-Day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Innovative Methods in Teaching HRM & OB’ organized during April 3 & 4, 2014 at SDMIMD campus. 
Faculty facilitators of the program Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta and Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Professors in the area of HRM at SDMIMD, while introducing the program said ‘the program aims to highlight the innovative teaching methods in the areas of Human Resource Management (HRM) and Organizational Behaviour (OB), which can be used effectively in the classroom situations to promote a holistic learning experience for the students’. The pedagogical tools of the program included a combination of lectures, simulation exercises, practical demonstrations of administering case study discussions and role play session. 
28 faculty members in the area of HRM and OB from various management institutes and universities across the country participated in the program.
During the valedictory ceremony on April 4, 2014, Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director of the Institute distributed the certificates to the participants. Dr. Sunil M.V., Program Coordinator and faculty members of the institute were present. 
 

SDMIMD Donates Books

The institute donated the books and stationary to the children of Govt. Higher Primary School, Body Guard Lane, Mysore on Friday, March 28, 2014. It was during last year the Institute started this initiative to collect the books from other Schools and segregate the collection to reach the right book to the right child. The student joined their hands with library in collecting, segregating and distributing 1400+ books to the needy children. Senior teacher of the benefited school said that ‘There are many students in our society who are deprived of the right to education due to economic problems. Such support will help the children to know more beyond their textbooks and use the summer holidays effectively’. 

Dr. Jagadeesh @ ICTBM 2014, Dubai

Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Professor of Operations Management and Quantitative Techniques, presented a paper titled “Benchmarking India’s innovation capabilities using the Global Innovation Index” at the International Conference on Technology and Business Management (ICTBM 2014) held at the American University in the Emirates, Dubai, from 24 to 26 March 2014. 

SDMIMD Faculty @ Intl. HR Meet

Dr. Mousumi Sengupta and Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta have been invited as speakers in the HR  Meet 2014 in Kathmandu, Nepal. As a Key Note Speaker, Dr. Mousumi delivered a lecture on ‘Emerging Trends in HRM’Dr. Nilanjan addressed the gathering on the topic “Strategic Dimensions of HRM’. Both the lectures have been highly appreciated and well-acclaimed by the participants of the Meet. Dr. Nilanjan and Dr. Mousumi also took part in the Panel discussion on ‘Workforce Diversity’ during the event. The Meet was held on 21 March, 2014 with participation from more than 200 human resource professionals from financial institutions, non-government organisationsinternational non-government organisations, government organisations and corporate houses.

SDMIMD’s 19th Annual Convocation

On March 21, 2014, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) marked the Nineteenth Annual Convocation for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) for batch 2012-14. It is also the 21st year of establishment of SDMIMD.
Prof. S. Prabhakar, Honorable Secretary, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Trust, presided over the convocation and awarded Certificates of Merit to the 2012- 2014 batch students.
Mr. Subroto Bagchi, Chairman, Mindtree, was the Chief Guest of the Convocation and delivered the convocation address. Mr. Subroto Bagchi rather took a tell-a-tale way while delivering the convocation address. He shared few instances from his life to underline the importance of empathy, inner and outer resilience, the traits which one has to develop along with the academic qualifications. Not undermining the importance of building a career, he insisted the students to realize the need of building institution. Go kiss the world – he flamboyantly wished congratulations to all the students who received the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). Before the address, he conferred the gold medals to the students who exceled in various subjects. 
Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD presented the glimpse of significant advancements made by the institute including A** rating by CRSIL and international tie-ups with British University in Dubai. Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director, SDMIMD, gave away the vote of thanks.

Student’s Magazine “Dimensions” goes online

The digital version of “Dimensions”, the student magazine of SDMIMD went live on March 20, 2014, as part of its Go-Green Initiative. Prof. S. Prabhakar, Secretary, SDM Education Trust, inaugurated the digital version of Dimensions by clicking the link. The student magazine which was brought out in conventional form from 1999 took its digital form to gain the wider reach through Internet. The first digital issue of Dimensions focused on entrepreneurship and related topics. Prof. Prabhakar while talking to gathering, with full appreciation for eco-friendly initiative, emphasized on utilizing the entrepreneurial skills of management graduates. The magazine’s purpose is to bridge the gap between Management students and corporate world through articles, interviews of management practitioners thus giving firsthand knowledge of business happenings. The Dimensions is on Open Access platform and is available at www.sdmimd.net/dimensions.

"Who am I" won Boroplus Short-Film Making Contest

The short film “who am I” by SDMites - Himanshu Singh Gurjar, Omkar Rajyaguru, Piyush Kumar, Aastha Vyas and Ashwin S. Prasad, has won the BoroPlus All India Short-Film Making Contest-2014. This year the contest invited entries on the theme Crime against Women. The films was expected to speak about the domestic violence, sexual harassment, income inequality, chauvinism, cultural stereotyping. The theme attracted entries across India and 14 entries were shortlisted for the final round. The entries were judged by the jury headed by Ad Guru Alyque Padamsee (Brand Father of Indian advertising, Padamsee has built over 100 brands). “Who am I” presented the theme and the contest expectation in 5 minutes which made it to top the contest.
