Microfinance study field visit

The PGDM 2018-20 Batch students from Microfinance specialization had an opportunity to interact with the beneficiaries of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) in Lakshmipura, Mysuru District. The filed visit organized by the course faculty Prof.  S. Kannadas, helped the students to visit the project location and small-scale business establishments of the beneficiaries of the scheme. 
 
The students concerned collected primary data about the SHG/JLG/PBG group formation and the training provided by SKDRDP for their upliftment of their standard of living. Further, the representative from SKDRDP provided information about the awareness programmes of women empowerment and various installation / establishment / training support extended by the organization for - solar water heater, gober gas plants, cattle rearing / poultry farms and the monthly books published by SKDRDP for the awareness of women empowerment.
 
Later, students were taken to the business establishments and explained the business & marketing process of the products manufactured by the establishments.

Workshop on Consultancy Management

Dr R. Kasthuri Rangan, Strategic Management Consultant, conducted a workshop on 'Consultancy Management' for the PGDM 2018-20 Batch on August 12, 2019. In his interaction with the students, Dr R. Kasthuri Rangan gave insights on consultancy business and the opportunities available to build a career in this field. Further, the workshop educated the student participants on the unorganized consulting market in India and the performance of major consultancy business extended to the US. The workshop held the students to understand various frameworks and the discussion focused on Visibility Credibility Matrix and Strategic Agility Model. The second half of the workshop focused on the management consulting process in a firm and how to write a consulting proposal. The concepts were further detailed through case analysis and application of concepts on how to write a proposal. The session was interactive and interesting for the students as they received an enriching insight on consultancy management.

Entrepreneur Experience by Pavan G Ranga

Mr Pavan G Ranga, Chairman, Rangsons Schuster Technologies Pvt. Ltd (RST) and CEO, Rangsons Electronics; the third -generation of the N Ranga Rao family that runs the NR group of companies and Member of Governing Board of SDMIMD addressed the PGDM 2019-21 Batch on August 12, 2019. SDMites had a chance to interact with the young entrepreneur who has transformed the Rangsons Schuster Technologies as a globally focused EMS provider. 
 
In his address, Mr Pavan gave insights on his journey as an entrepreneur and emphasised on “Nothing is wrong or right. Choose a thing and make it right”. Mr Pavan called upon the young managers to follow their passion and choose a career of their choice. The interaction on the different facets of the entrepreneurship with students made the speaker to detail the success journey on how he made RST a globally focused EMS provider. 

Prerana Alumni Lecture by Mr. Feroze Azeez

On August 12, 2019, a guest talk was organized for Second year students who have taken Finance Specialization of PGDM 2018-20 Batch by Mr. Feroze Azeez, PGDM Alumnus 2003-05 Batch; and, Deputy CEO, Anand Rathi Private Wealth Management, Mumbai, under Prerana Alumni Lecture Series. Mr. Feroze gave insights on the career opportunities in the area of Financial Derivatives and elucidated about the different financial derivatives products available in the current market. 
 
Mr. Feroze called upon the young managers to analyse their strengths and identify a niche for themselves to grow in the present corporate world. Mr. Feroze also stated that it is essential to have a curiosity to learn new things and tap opportunities for a successful career. The session was interactive and interesting with the active participation of the students in the discussion.

Motivational Talk by Toastmaster Kavitha Prakash

  
SDMIMD Toastmasters’ Club organized a Motivational Talk for the PGDM Batch 2019-21 on August 7, 2019. The talk was preceded by the presentation of report on the activities of the Toastmasters club at SDMIMD by the club. TM Kavitha M Prakash, Corporate Trainer for many Fortune 100 Companies and the current area Director for Toastmasters International District 92, for Mysore, spoke about going beyond our comfort zone to achieve our dreams. The talk was followed a briefing on Toastmasters International and its activities.

Certificate Awarding Ceremony of PGPM 2018-19 Batch

 
The Certificate Awarding Ceremony for the first batch of Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) was organized on August 5, 2019. Eight students were awarded the Certificate by Shri. D. Surendra Kumar, Vice-President, SDM Educational Trust.  
 
In the ceremonial address Shri. D. Surendra Kumar recalled the earlier days of the institute when ideas were borrowed from IIM’s and said ‘SDMIMD is better than many IIMs by offering - one-year, doctoral and twin program apart from our flagship PGDM program, and many B-Schools dare to start beyond MBA program’.  
 
Prof. Malathi Sriram, Chairperson of PGPM Program, presented the report of the academic year 2018-19 and congratulated the graduating students who got placed in companies of repute such as Moody’s Analytics, EqualizeRCM, Ornativa, HDFC Bank Ltd, and HealthCare Ltd. 
 
Prof. Malathi informed the audience that the PGPM was ranked among the top 10 One-year programs in the country by Outlook in the B-School Survey 2018. 

Inauguration of PGCM 2019-20 Batch

The first batch of 15-Months full-time residential Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) approved by AICTE was formally inaugurated at SDMIMD on the August 5, 2019 by Sri. D. Surendra Kumar, Vice-President, SDM Educational Trust. 
 
Inaugurating the program Sri Surendra Kumar said the inaugural session is very special because of 2 reasons – one, 2019 is the year, SDMIMD is celebrating its 25 Years in Management Education; and, this is first batch of One-year program offered with AICTE approval. Sri Surendra Kumar congratulated the institute authorities for the initiative and welcomed the PGCM 2019-20 Batch. 
 
Earlier Dr. N.R. Parasuraman welcome the Vice President of the Trust and presented the history of management education of SDMIMD to the audience. Dr. Parasuraman called upon new batch of PGCM Program to be sensitive to social concern, Dharmasthala ethos, and ethical commitment to the workplace. 
 
Prof Malathi Sriram, Chairperson of the program presented an overview about the program and informed about the Study Abroad Program and a Socially Relevant Project which is offered in the program.

Invited talk on ‘Innovation Based Thinking’ by Alumnus

The Prerana Lecture Series 2019 organized invited talk on August 3, 2019, for PGDM 2019-21. The talk demystified “Innovation” and how the same can help position the product in buyer’s mind. In the hyper-competitive markets, Innovation as positioning clarity, provides the much-needed edge that helps organizations compete, acquire and keep customers. Most importantly, customer acquisition drives up revenues and can drive economies. With this background Mr. Rajesh Ballakoor, an alumnus of SDM-IMD from 95-97 batch along with Mr Krish Ramamurthy, an Industry veteran, delivered the invited talk on topic ‘Demystifying Innovation driven Customer Acquisition’. 

Khoj 2019

Khoj - the talent search festival of SDMites is a platform for the new batch of PGDM 2019-21 to showcase their aptitude. Kohj 2019 was organized on August 3, 2019, to identify talent among the freshers through various competitions and to formally Welcome them to student committees of the Institute. The show by the new PGDM batch 2019-21 was laced with impromptu speeches, colourful dances, humorous skits, classical songs and fancy dress shows. Seniors PGDM 2018-19 Batch hosted the event and introduced the various clubs & committees to the new bees on the campus. 

Workshop on Neuro Management and Leadership

As part of the exchange arrangement with EAE Business School, Spain, a 4-Day Workshop on “Neuro management and Neuro leadership" was organized for the benefit of Second Year students during July 15 to 18, 2019. The workshop revolved around the essentials for becoming a powerful leader and a team player in today’s dynamic corporate world. 
 
Prof. Alexia threw light on the basic emotions of an individual and emphasized on the two common emotions which are love and fear. She gave insights on Cognitive dissonance and Social Dissonance. Prof. Alexia also elucidated about the mind empowerment and the positive impact created by it on the productivity of an individual. The program was interesting and inquisitive and was instrumental in providing an enriched learning experience for the students.
