Budget Conclave: Post-Budget Analysis by Experts

SDMIMD Mysore hosted a conclave on July 29, 2024 to deliberate on the Union Budget 2024-25 in collaboration of CII Mysuru, with PWC serving as the knowledge partner. The event featured insights from prominent industry experts and eminent academicians.
 
Mr. Eashwar Rao V, Chairperson, CII Mysore zone while highlighting the key aspects of the budget, said that it was an inclusive budget. Dr. (Lt Col) S N Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, Mysuru, termed the budget forward-looking and future-oriented. Mr. S Ranganathan, Convenor of CII Mysuru Finance & Taxation Panel spoke highlighting the initiatives for MSMEs and discussed the implications of short-term and long-term capital gains. 
 
Partners from PWC, including Ms. Prajwala Pai, Mr. Vishal Krishnam, Mr. Keshav Mundhra, and Mr. Ravi Kumar Bhatia, shared perspectives on the tax revisions proposed in the Budget. They felt that a rise in security transaction tax may restrict speculative trading infusing greater stability to the market. An increase in short-term capital gains tax was termed undesirable as this would affect the interest of the middle asset class.
 
The conclave had a panel discussion on the implication of the budget proposals on the key sectors and sections of the economy featuring experts from different domains. Dr Venkatraja, Associate Professor of Economics at SDMIMD Mysore said that budget emphasis would boost agriculture but income disparity among the farmers is still a challenge. Prof. Shyamsundar from NIE Mysore said that the budget would contribute to the much-needed energy transition and sustained future. Prof. Girish Gopalarao, Associate Professor, SDMIMD Mysore believes that the budget would create an appropriate ecosystem need for IT and automotive sectors.   Mr. Sabareeshan, an Independent Director at BPL Ltd analysed the various budget provisions for the manufacturing sector. Mr. Vishal Krishnam, partner at PWC shed light on how BFSI sector could leverage the budget for more growth. Dr. S N Prasad moderated the discussions and appreciated the increasing allocations to the defense sector as this would accelerate the efforts of modernising and strengthening the defense forces.
 
The conclave also featured a brief presentation on the salient features of the union budget by the students of SDMIMD - Mr. Rajath, Ms. Monica, Ms. Shwetha Krishna and Mr. Naman. Dr B Venkatraja delivered a welcome address and highlighted the key features of the budget. The conclave was witnessed by industry leaders, practitioners, academicians, and students. 

Budget Conclave 2023

SDMIMD organized Union Budget Conclave 2023- Post Budget analysis on February 2, 2023. The talks by CA Sri.Lakshminarasimha, CA; Sri.Ravikumar, CA, focussed on the recent amendments in taxation (Direct and GST) announced in UB 2023. Sri.Sameer Parekh, Founder Director, Greeshma Shares and Stocks Ltd provided numerous insights on the increased emphasis on infra spending and growth. Dr.S.N.Prasad, Deputy Director, SDMIMD, shared his perspective on Union Budget and its linkage with various macro economic factors.

Budget Conclave 2021

SDMIMD in association with CII, Mysuru and Mysuru Chapter of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India jointly organized Union Budget Conclave 2021- Post Budget analysis through virtual mode on February 03, 2021.
 
The panellists comprising of Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, Mr. Amit Kumar, Chairman CII Mysuru, Mr. Pavan Ranga Vice Chairman, CII Mysuru, Mr. S. Ranganathan, Convener, CII Finance and Taxation Panel were unanimous in the opinion that the budget was growth oriented with more focus on healthcare, agricultural and rural development, and infrastructural development. According to them, there were few areas like education and defence where the focus of the budget was limited. The fiscal stimulus by the Government as suggested in the economic survey was factored in the budget through announcement of special packages and incentives on infrastructural development and impetus to ‘make in India’ as part of ‘Atmanirbar Bharath’.
 
Highlights and salient features of the Union Budget 2021 was well captured by the PGDM students of SDMIMD.
 
Mr. Ganesh Krishnamurthy, Mr. Sandesh Kumar and Mr. Faneel Shah, partners from PWC (Price Waterhouse Coopers) highlighted the salient features of the Union Budget with respect to direct and indirect taxations.
 
Dr. M. Sriram, Associate Professor-Finance, SDMIMD welcomed the gathering and briefed on the program and the budget. The session was moderated by Mr. Devanathan, Co-convener, finance and taxation panel, CII Mysuru who also proposed vote of thanks.

Union Budget Conclave 2020

SDMIMD organized the Union Budget Conclave (post budget analysis) jointly with CII, Mysuru on 3rd February,2020. Deloitte was the knowledge partner for the occasion.
 
The event commenced with a welcome address and brief note on the program and the budget by the program convenor Dr. M Sriram, Assistant Professor, Finance – SDMIMD, Mysuru. Dr. Sriram opined that the budget has factored in the findings of the economic survey and it provided long term stimulus rather than the short term, the desired results of the new Budget would be evident only with time.
 
Dr. N R Parasuraman, Director – SDMIMD, Mysuru in his address on ‘The Indian Economy’ and Budget 2020-21 shared his thoughts on the current slowdown  of the Indian economy and observed that the budget is forward looking and future oriented.
 
The conclave had invited talks by experts on Union Budget 2020-21 from CII, Mysuru comprising of Mr. Baskar Kalale, Chairman, CII, Mysuru, Mr.Amith Kumar, Vice Chairman, CII, Mysuru, Mr. S.Ranganathan, Convener, Finance and Taxation Panel, CII Mysuru.
 
This was followed by a brief presentation on the salient features of the budget by the Post Graduate Diploma Management (PGDM) Students of SDMIMD, Mr.Souvik Dey, Ms.Priya Pandey, Mr.Ashish Prasad, Mr.Sebu Padayvatty, Ms.Syeda Zaiba.
 
Officials from Deloitte presented their views on the impact of budget announcements on taxation and indirect taxation. Mr.Baskar, Partner, Deloitte, Mr.Suresh Kumar, Partner, Deloitte, Mr. Ganesh Krishnamurthy, Director, Deloitte were the officials. The budget culminated with a discussion in the form of Q&A session.
