74th Republic Day Celebration

'As we look to the future, we must acknowledge that our world is changing at an unprecedented pace. Technology is transforming the way we live, work and communicate. Climate change is altering our environment and economies. And the world is becoming more interconnected and interdependent. But with change comes opportunity. We must use this opportunity to build a new India with social inclusiveness' thus said Dr Sunil M.V., Head – Academic Administration, SDMIMD, during the 74th Republic Day celebration at SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore.
 
Dr Sunil called upon the young managers of the institute to be with society and the environment as the responsible manager. Further, he said, 'don't ask what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then do that. Because what the world needs is people who are alive.'
 
Dr S N Prasad, Deputy Director of the Institute and faculty members Dr M.R. Suresh and Prof. C.V. Sridhar addressed the students during the event. Patriotic songs and views on the importance of the day by the students; and the distribution of sweets with community breakfast marked the 74th Republic Day Celebration at SDMIMD. Faculty, staff and students participated in the national festival.

International Student Exchange Program 2023 – PGDM 2022-24

As part of the students exchange program 31 select students of PGDM 2022-24 batch will be visiting eight different international foreign universities for a whole term of study. During the program SDMIMD students will be studying with many international students and get taught by several faculty from different nationalities. The experience of having different pedagogy is invaluable for their growth. Besides the facility to do cases and projects with students of other nationalities and background affords cross-cultural understanding. Further, the evaluation technique used in these schools enables students to be on their toes and prove their mettle.  
 
The foreign universities to which the selected students will go are as follows:

International Conference on New Age Marketing

The inauguration of International Conference on ‘‘New Age marketing – Catalyzing Transformation Through Innovation, Technology, Analytics and Sustainability’’ was held on January 19, 2023 at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), under the aegis of BCIC (Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce).
 
The Chief Guest and keynote speaker Shri. Rabindra Sah, Chief Engineer – Strategic Projects – Tata Technologies. emphasized on how global industries are witnessing transformation in delivering unique experiences to their consumers through latest technological developments such as, Internet of Things (IOT), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR) and eXtended Reality (XR) etc. During his inaugural address, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director – SDMIMD, stressed the heightened importance of marketing function for all organizations and the need to stay ahead of the curve in today's fast-paced business environment by adopting innovative practices.
 
Dr. S. Saibaba, Assistant Professor, Marketing – SDMIMD and Conference Chair discussed that the theme of the conference was aimed at enabling the dissemination of knowledge among the researchers and practitioners, emphasizing the need for comprehending the key role played by innovation, technology, analytics and sustainability in shaping the future of the marketing function in a modern organization. The conference received more than 70 research contributions by faculty, research scholars and post-graduate students of various institutions across the country, and there are around 100 participants registered for the conference.

SDMIMD Journal of Management is Indexed in the UGC Care List

The UGC established “Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics” (CARE) for the creation and maintenance of a “Reference List of Quality Journals” in 2018. After a rigorous review process, the SDMIMD Journal of Management, a journal published and promoted by SDMIMD, Mysore (in partnership with Informatics Publishing Limited) has been included in the UGC Care list. This implies that the top academic & research regulatory body has acknowledged the high standards of research publication maintained by the SDMIMD Journal. It is testimony to the rigorous selection and review process being practiced by the Journal Editorial Board before publication. 
 
The Journal was started in 2010 and is published twice a year in print and online versions. The journal publishes high-quality research papers addressing all domains of management. The Journal has a large readership among academics, industry, policymakers, and practitioners. 
 
The UGC Care Listing of the Journal will benefit the journal and the readers in terms of further enhancement in the quality standards. 

10th International HR Conference

SDMIMD organized its 10th International HR Conference on “HR for Business Excellence” on 15th and 16th December 2022.  The conference was inaugurated on 15th December 2022 at 9:30 am by Dr. N R Parasuraman, Director of SDMIMD, and the conference Chair Dr. Mousumi Sengupta. In his inaugural address, Dr N R Parasuraman discussed about the importance of HR Leadership in an organization, and how HR plays a role as a key management factor. Dr. Mousumi emphasized on the role of HR in inculcating positive mindset amongst employees.  The Conference Proceeding CD was also released by Dr. Parasuraman. 
 
The keynote speaker Mr. K R Sekar, Partner, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP, explained about the evolving role of a CHRO of a company, who needed to nurture the human capital of a company, for sustaining the strategic advantage.  He also mentioned that in the post-covid era, both physical and mental health of the employees are to be looked after, by the companies. Mr. Jagan Karthick, Program Lead at DERBI Foundation and Mr. Abrar, Incubation Manager at DERBI Foundation, were the speakers for another session of the day. The speakers emphasized on HR Challenges faced by today’s start-ups. It was discussed that involvement of HR as a strategic partner is crucial for any company’s growth.  There were paper presentations tracks in the morning and the afternoon. The day was concluded with commendable cultural performances organized by Kalanubhav Committee of SDMIMD. 
 
The following day began at 10:00am with papers presentations, followed by the distinguished lecture by Mr Venkatanarayanan, President - HR & CHRO, Rane Group. The speaker emphasized about the necessity for more responsible HRM Department and employee-friendly policies at workplace. The Valedictory address was delivered by Dr. Augustus Azariah, Employee & Labor Relations Leader, Kyndryl, Asia Pacific Middle East & Africa Region. He focused on the HR’s duty of care for the employees and a need for the total inclusive work environment. Dr. S. N. Prasad, Deputy-Director, SDMIMD, discussed the necessity of the progressive HRM for an organization, during the session.  
 
The conference was organized under the aegis of BCIC - SDMIMD Centre for Management Excellence. More than 100 participants from all over the country, along with the faculty members, staff and students of SDMIMD, took part in the conference. 

Visit to NSE Mumbai by PGDM Students

NCCMP (NSE Certified Capital Market Professional) students of II-year PGDM 2021-23 visited NSE Mumbai for a workshop on ‘Capital Markets’ on December 16, 2022. The training and certification were part of the MoU signed between SDMIMD and NSE. The workshop focussed on trading and settlement of transactions in a stock exchange, cyber security issues relating to the functioning of NSE, developments in capital markets in terms of new products and instruments and how NSE has embraced IT in managing stock exchange operations. The trainers were drawn from both NSE and other stock broking firms. Dr.M.Sriram, Associate Professor-Finance, SDMIMD accompanied the students to Mumbai as part of the workshop.

HR Dasara 2022

‘To equip the society to the changing world the practices and approach should be relooked. Mysore palace trained the army with updated skill sets to fight against the physical war. Now to equip the society to face the war in the Cyber World, we have established Centre of Excellence in Cyber-verse in Mysore, aimed to create a sustainable and growth-driving ecosystem, wherein the initiative is aimed towards protecting the digital economy of India and elevating India as a world leader in Cybersecurity skill development, capacity building, and R&D’ thus said Shri Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Custodian of the Royal House of Mysore, during HR Dasara 2022, held at SDMIMD Mysore, organized by Edin Synergy and SDMIMD as part of the culminating every of Navami – the 9 events of HR Dasara. 
 
Speaking on the sustainability, Shri Wadiyar said ‘when we have used the resources from the mother earth to fulfill our requirements. It is our responsibility to fill it back twice what we have taken for the prosperity of our future generation, this is sustainability’. Shri. Wadiyar recalled the contribution of Mysore Kings for the Industrial Development and Education in the state with anecdotes establishment of HAL, University of Mysore, focused on skill Development of HR of the State and the sustainability practices. 
 
Dr. S. N. Prasad, recalled how the sustainability aspects was adopted and practiced from past several years in Shivanasamudra Hydro Power Project which is one of the Non – Government Institution during British Raj initiated and established by the Wadiyars of Mysore.
 
Mr Goutham B M, Head HR, Radico Khaitan, Mysuru and President, Mysore HR Forum, welcomed and presented the Navamai – 9 Events of the HR Dasara 2022 to the gathering. 
 
The event witnessed the participation from HR Professionals, HR practitioners, Management students and entrepreneurs. The packed sessions with panel discussion, invited talks, awards to the best practices of presented during the HR & CSR Conclave, cultural, marked the celebration of HR Dasara 2022 and beginning of HR Dasara 2023. 

CSR Excellence Award 2022

SDMIMD bags CSR Excellence Awards 2022 in the HR & CSR Conclave 2022, organized by the Edin Group and Colortone Textiles as part of the HR Dasara 2022 held on December 5, 2022. The journey of SDMIMD from Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) was presented by the PGDM 2022-24 Batch students Ms Umasaikiran Minnakuri, Mr Rajat Shaha, and Mr Bethe Jayaprakash Naidu under the guidance of Dr Sunil MV and Dr Mousumi Sengupta. The presentation encompassed the timeline of SDMIMD initiatives from the integration of “The Philosophy of Dharma” from the parent organization to the recent adoption of Environment, Social, and Governance.
 
(ESG). The CSR Excellence Award 2022 in the Education and Social Welfare category is given to SDMIMD in appreciation for its efforts to give back to society.

7th International Economics Conference 2022

     
SDMIMD, in association with the Bangalore Chambers of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), organised the 7th International Economics Conference (IEC) on the theme - Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends on November 24 & 25, 2022. The 7th edition of the IEC was inaugurated by Mr P.G. Yogindra, Former Executive Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). Mr Yogindra, during his inaugural address, said, ‘economic growth and sustainable development needs to be balanced, and each economic activity must focus on three dimensions of sustainability – economic, social and environmental’. The guest released an electronic version of the Conference Proceeding as a CD during the inaugural event. 
 
The two-day conference deliberated the emerging economic growth and sustainable development issues from various dimensions. 
 
The conference had an overwhelming response as more than 140 delegates from different parts of the country participated in the conference. More than 100 research papers/case studies were presented and deliberated across two days. The conference was attended by academicians, research scholars, and corporate executives.  
 
Earlier, Dr B. Venkatraja, the Chairperson of IEC, welcomed the gathering and presented the conference's theme. Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, in his address, focused on the importance of the theme and the need for Industry-Academia deliberation.

Success is a Marathon, not a Sprint - Abhishek Jain
Mr Abhishek Kumar Jain, General Manager - Investor Relations & Taxation, Wipro Ltd, delivered the keynote address to the 7th International Economics Conference (IEC) on November 24, 2022. Mr Abhishek shared insights into India being an emerging alternative to China and how good tax collection has helped reduce the fiscal deficit. Speaking of technology adoption, every company is technology-driven, and this environment has bought in high scope in the IT sector. Dr M. Sriram, Associate Professor of Finance at SDMIMD, chaired the session. 

Session on Manufacturing and Sustainability by Mr Dhakharia
Mr Awibhawan Dhakharia, Business Head, Liebherr India Pvt Ltd., was the speaker for the Technical Session on November 24, 2022, during International Economic Conference (IEC) focused on Manufacturing and Sustainability. Mr Dhakharia presented how the 'Make in India' shifted the gear of the manufacturing sector, with a focus on the aerospace industry, in India and its contributions to making India a manufacturing hub of the World. He further iterated on how the manufacturing ecosystem is being developed in India and how this will propel India to be a manufacturing hub of the World and move ahead with - Make in India and Make for the World. Prof. Mohammed Minhaj, Associate Professor of Systems at SDMIMD, chaired the session. 

Invited session on Environment, Social and Governance (ESG)
Mr Rajesh Kumar Jha, Country Environment Sustainability Manager, ABB India Ltd and Co-Chair of the ESG Panel at BCIC, was the Distinguished Speaker for the technical session of the 7th International Economics Conference (IEC) on November 25, 2022. Mr Rajesh focused his talk on ESG elements and the strategic approach towards becoming an ESG leader. The speaker illustrated how the Government is bringing policies through its governing agencies, such as SEBI, that try to inculcate the mentality of Business Responsibility and Sustainable Practices by mandating disclosures on the same, which will make India a global leader for sustainable growth. During his presentation, the speaker highlighted the importance of water in sustainability and explained the instrumental role of software such as BMS and EMS in transforming ABB’s plant to achieve the same. The session was chaired by Dr. M. Sriram, Associate Professor at SDMIMD. 

‘Think big, think digital, think green' – Dr Kamalesh Vyas
‘We need to display personal social responsibility. Sustainable, conscious, ethical and honest work is the path toward a sustainable economy. The strategic actions of corporate organisations ought to ensure that sustainability is sustainable for all stakeholders’ thus said Dr Kamalesh Vyas, Partner at Deloitte, in his valedictory address during the International Economic Conference (IEC) on November 25, 2022. Dr Kamalesh, while discussing the eight key driving elements of sustainability, said, “think big, think digital, think green” is the mantra for future Economic Growth and Sustainable Development.
 
Dr M. R. Suresh, Professor of Marketing at SDMIMD, chaired the session and presented his thoughts on sustainability. Dr B. Venkatraja, Conference Chairperson, proposed a vote of thanks.
