Interactive Session on Product Management

On 22nd June 2019, SDMIMD organized an interactive session on ‘Product Management’ as a part of its Prerana – Alumni Lecture Series, with Mr. Rajnikanth Urs M.C., Regional Product Manager for Asia Pacific and Japan, HP Asia Pacific Pte Ltd., as the distinguished speaker.
 
‘Attitude, persistence, patience, the ability to understand the customers and present the right solutions are the core skill set required to be successful in the field’ thus said Mr. Rajinikanth Urs, while sharing his insights on qualities and skills that were instrumental in making him a successful product manager for Asia Pacific region at HP.
 
In his address, Mr. Urs spoke about Product Management and threw light on its different aspects which included, product life cycle, competitor analysing, customer requirement, identifying the gaps in the present market, planning for a product in terms of features and budget and further, deciding a plan to launch the same. 
 
The session was concluded with Mr. Urs addressing the queries raised by students with respect to the topic and pertaining to a career in Sales and Marketing.

Invited talk by alumnus

Ms. Vekariya Helly Ramesh, the alumnus of PGDM 2009-11, was the invited speaker for the talk delivered on July 12, 2018. Ms. Helly spoke about the importance of personal finance and financial discipline in life. 
 

Alumnus speaks on 'Institute to Industry'

Mr. Jacob Thomas, an alumnus of SDMIMD addressed the first year PGDM students on the topic “Institute to Industry”, held on February 11,2017. During the course of his lecture he highlighted the expectations of the Industry. Mr Jacob asked the students to Innovate, Ideate and optimize the existing process. Mr. Jacob also emphasised on the fact that the students must Identify Value in businesses. 
 
Mr. Jacob Thomas dedicated the session to late Dr Mihir Mahapatra, Professor in Economics.

Alumnus on Campus - Mr. Rajanikanth Urs M.C

'Organization strategy should be taken forward with a focus on using technology as enabler. This should be the core in all aspects of management. We should explore ways as to how Internet of Things (IoT), Social Media, to put it succinctly, the concept of 'Digital Marketing' can help us in product management, product marketing, customer feedback, and  research & innovation' thus said Rajanikanth Urs M.C., SDMite of PGDM 1998-2000; and, Regional Category Manager, Asia Pacific & Japan, HPE FlexNetwork and Aruba Switching, Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company. 
 
The talk that focused on 'Product Marketing and Management' was scheduled on December 20, 2016 at our Institute Auditorium.

Alumnus on Campus – Mr. Chandrasekhar Kalubandi

'Workforce Transformation' was the invited talk presented during the technical session at the 5th International HR Conference, scheduled on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Mr. Chandrasekhar Kalubandi, Vice President, NTT Data, Bangalore, the invited speaker and alumnus of SDMIMD, shared his views on how the focus of the workforce has shifted from 'factor driven growth' to 'innovation driven growth'. The discussion on how workforce transformation helps in employee motivation with the audience was interesting. 

Webinar on Marketing by Alumnus

Ms. Ranjani Madhavan, Marketing Excellence Leader, 3M, Switzerland and alumna of the institute addressed the marketing students of the institute through Skype on July 20, 2016. 
 
After illustrating the value creation from marketing with help of some international cases, Ms. Ranjani helped the participants understand the different job profiles related to marketing domain. She also shared many tips with the students regarding how to prepare for a marketing career.

Alumnus on Campus – Mr. Pramod P

It was always interesting, interactive and informative to here from an alumnus, the PGDM 2016-18 had an opportunity to meet and interact with alumns of PGDM 2001-03 Mr. Pramod, P. Pramod drew on his experiences in the corporate sector to demonstrate how roles keep changing in the industry. He called upon the budding managers to be prepared to take risks and willing to learn more. He explained how the SWOT analysis is very important in setting goals and enables a person to march towards success.

Alumni on Campus – Mr. Rakshit S.P

Mr. Rakshit S.P. alumnus of SDMIMD of PGDM 1995-97 and a successful entrepreneur running niche enterprises delivered an invited talk to the new students of SDMIMD on June 17, 2016. Using simple examples, Mr. Rakshith demonstrated how flow measurement with respect to human systems particularly the blood flow is made. He stressed the importance of learning rather just studying. He suggested to students to learn what they want to do and understand what they want to be, and ensure success in the real world.

Talk on 'Preparation of B-Plan"

Mr. Rajesh, Founder - Hightway Delite and Alumnus of SDMIMD delivered talk on "Preparation of B-Plan" on January 9, 2016. The talk was organizedby Swayam - the e-Cell of SDMites under the series “How to Prepare a B-plan”. Mr. Rajesh with his wide experience in various field like IT, investment etc., focused his talk on the nitty-gritty of business plan with the template that could be used even for the seed- funding for a start-up. The talk was very informative for the students and gave a ready template to plan for entrepreneurship initiatives.

Institute to Industry - A Transition Story by an Alumnus

It was a great experiential learning for the new batch of PGDM students from an alumnus of the Institute, Mr. Jacob Thomas, Campus Recruitment Lead (Kerala), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) during the course of the talk ‘Institute to Industry – A Transition Story’ on July 11, 2015 at the SDMIMD Auditorium. Mr. Jacob planned the session to make the new SDMites understand the importance of application- oriented learning and the need to consider a holistic approach. In this talk he said ‘knowledge does not make one complete, wisdom does’. Students need to understand the timely application of the needed skill in the most effective manner. He argued that students are institutionalized to the thinking that what they believe is correct. The new SDMites were given an idea of how institutions work and how budding mangers have to equip themselves.
