Virtual Roundtable on Inspiring Women to Lead

At the virtual Roundtable discussion on “Inspiring Women to Lead” organized by SDMIMD and CII Mysuru Women Network Forum on February 28, 2022, Ms. Supriya Salian, Vice-Chairperson, CII Mysuru, spoke on the collaborative leadership style demonstrated by women leaders during the pandemic and the positive impact it has had on countries and organizations. She emphasized the need for industry and academia to deliberate on the ways to bring in more women into leadership positions. The event began with the welcome address by Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director SDMIMD, who stated that at SDMIMD every year efforts are on to increase the number of girl students and highlighted that over the last few years majority of the gold medalists have been ladies. 
 
The panel consisted of Mr. Pavan Ranga, Chairman, CII Mysuru & CEO, Rangsons LLP, Mr. Sukumar Rangachari, Past Chairman, CII Mysuru, Ms. Saraswati K S, Senior Project Manager, L&T Infotech Ltd, and Ms. Puja Mehra, Journalist and Author. Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, Associate Professor, SDMIMD, moderated the discussion in which various issues such as the barriers to women in leadership, leadership traits in women and steps that can be taken to inspire women to lead were raised.
 
Mr. Ranga was of the firm belief that women are increasingly important in building organizations as they make excellent mentors, and the future relies on mentor leadership rather than authoritarian leadership. He also stated that organizations should choose women to lead because of their competence and not their gender. The panelists agreed that women need to be focused, build the required competencies and be courageous. Ms. Roopa Rao, Convenor, CII Mysore Women Network Forum, emphasized the necessity of welcoming new possibilities for the desired change in organizations and society. Ms. Deepashree Narendran, Co-Convenor, CII Mysore Women Network Forum, delivered the vote of thanks. The session was attended by Dr. S. N. Prasad, Deputy Director SDMIMD, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of CII. Ms. Rachana M, student, SDMIMD, compered the event.

Startup Charcha 2022

SDMIMD organized the Annual Event - Startup Charcha on February 25, 2022, on a virtual mode. Startup Charcha is a major one among various entrepreneurship activities undertaken by Swayam - E cell of SDMIMD students and is in line with the current focus and thrust on startups with a conducive policy environment. SDMIMD’s E-cell had initiated entrepreneurship activities such as Cerebra, E-quest, etc., to give conceptual insights to students on Entrepreneurship. The E-cell of SDMIMD students has undertaken many activities since 2013. Many alumni of SDMIMD have also established successful startups.

Annual Leadership Talk 2022

‘Take the stairs and not the elevator for a happy and successful life.’ said Prof. Ramesh Venkateswaran, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Palakkad, and former Director, SDMIMD, Mysore. He was speaking at the 13th Edition of the Annual Leadership Talk (ALT) organized by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) Mysore on campus. In his address to the students, he said that in today’s world, everyone wants to reach the top very quickly. Once at the top, they feel lost, and this results in a multitude of problems.
 

Session on Union Budget 2022: Post Budget Analysis

SDMIMD and BCIC (Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce) organized the annual post-budget analysis event Union Budget Conclave 2022 on February 2, 2022. The event was organized under the aegis of SDMIMD-BCIC Centre for Excellence in Management (CEM).
 

Workshop on Customer Centricity

SDMIMD organized an online workshop on Customer Centricity in association with Texas A&M University for the PGDM students as a part of their off-book learning curriculum. The workshop was organized on 24-01-2022 and 31.01.2022. Dr. Akshaya Sreenivasan, Clinical Assistant Professor, Mays Business School, Texas A&M University, was the resource person for the workshop. 
 
The workshop on Customer Centricity focused mainly on the ground reality of organizations that thrive on being customer-centric and the various perks associated with it. Starting with the significance of customer-centric business models, Dr. Akshaya Sreenivasan took the students through how different products can have different goals by approaching market conditions that define the centricity window. However, customer-centric products, companies have grown in terms of popularity over the years and much more.
 
The session had all students interacting and relating to the framework in their daily scenarios. In Addition, the workshop also helped the students get more insights on market research methods by using the software tools. The session concluded with a hands-on activity for the students to work on a hypothetical situation and devise a target market based on the GE-McKinsey Matrix.

A Workshop on Leading Design Thinking and Systematic Innovation

World Economic Forums 2025s Top Five Skills for future Jobs are related to Innovation. Being innovative is the new competitiveness. Professional Innovation Management is evolving faster than we think; similar to Project Management in the 1950s and Quality management in the 1980s, now Innovation and Sustainability is the mantra for the future-focused organization. Imbibing the right tools and techniques such as Design Thinking and Functional Innovation for a Systematic Approach is a way to develop a common purpose, language, and definition to democratize Innovation in any organization. Enabling budding business managers with these tools would prepare them for the future of work, thus said Mr. Lokesh V., CEO & Managing Director, Innomantra Consulting Private Limited. 
 
Mr. Lokesh was the resource person for the workshop on Leading Design Thinking and Systematic Innovation held on Saturday, January 29, 2022, for the Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) students of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD). 

International Marketing Conference 2022

The 2022 edition of the International Conference on Marketing in Turbulent Times: Challenges and Opportunities was organized on January 27, 2022. SDMIMD and the Bangalore Chamber of Industry & Commerce (BCIC) jointly organized the online conference, attracting research and conceptual papers from academia and industry. 
 
The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker Mr. B. R. Indushekar, Vice President – BCIC and Director – Group Real Estate, Volvo Group India Pvt Ltd., emphasized the need for rethinking and revisiting the marketing strategies in the current complex marketplaces and highlighted the need for ethical marketing practices in modern business organizations.
 
Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, released the conference proceedings in the form of a CD. He stressed the heightened importance of marketing function in the present complex business world during his speech. 
 
Earlier, Dr. S. Saibaba, Assistant Professor-Marketing, SDMIMD, and the Conference Chair welcomed the gathering and introduced the conference theme for the year 2022.
 
During the valedictory session, the dynamic and evolving nature of marketing and its increased value to contemporary businesses was discussed by Dr. S. N. Prasad, Deputy Director, SDMIMD. The distinguished speaker at the valedictory session, Shri C. K. Sabareeshan, Independent Director – BPL Ltd., highlighted the challenges and opportunities faced by the marketers in turbulent markets continuously, with a focus on critical issues such as a clear understanding of the dynamic state of customer expectations, the relevance of technologies (artificial intelligence) in the current market situations.

73rd Republic Day Celebrations

The 73rd Republic Day was celebrated at SDMIMD with great respect and involvement. Dr. Saibaba S., Asst. Professor – Marketing, SDMIMD, hoisted the National Flag. Dr. Saibaba, in his speech, mentioned that Republic day is the most memorable day in the history of Independent India, as the constitution of India came into effect. He suggested that everyone rededicate themselves towards nurturing, safeguarding, and strengthening the ideals, values and systems enriched in our constitution on this momentous occasion. The change we wish to see in the country will always begin. More than just demanding our rights, every individual has to be duty-bound. Dr. Saibaba wished that everyone would pledge to preserve our rich culture and make our country poverty-free, corruption-free, pollution-free, clean, and healthy.
