SDMIMD Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) - Swayam organized its flagship event ‘Startup Charcha' on 7th February 2019. The program began with a Panel Discussion on the topic ‘Entrepreneurship: Issues, Challenges, and the Way Ahead’, moderated by Dr. M R Suresh, Professor – Marketing, SDMIMD and also the Coordinator of the event. The Distinguished Panellists were Mr. Sanjay Srinivasmurthy, Director-Silicon Road, Mr. Krishna Narayana, Managing Director of Shyama Jewels and Dr. M Sriram, Professor – Finance, SDMIMD. This was followed by an insightful talk by Mr Sanjaya Doreswamy, Founder - Kuteera Kitchen. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Narendra Narayanan, Founder & Managing Director of Vinyas Innovative Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Mysuru. The charcha concluded with open forum having interaction between the students and the distinguished guests. |

SDMIMD's flagship B-School Management Fest Naissance was inaugurated on 1st February 2019. The 2019 edition with the theme 'Combat of the Crowns’ was inaugurated by the Chief Guest His Highness, The Maharaja of Mysore, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar. The two-day national level B-School fest witnessed intellectual battle and supremacy between the brightest minds of premier B-schools of India with the participation of 176 students from 18 colleges. The theme of ‘Naissance 2019 – Combat of the Crowns’ revolved around the management lessons and principles derived from the ancient Indian emperors and its implications in today’s dynamic business environment. Kristu Jayanthi College from Bengaluru emerged as the Overall winners of Naissance 2019. |

The 70th Republic Day was celebrated with great patriotism and fervour at SDMIMD on Saturday, January 26, 2019. The celebrations began with a patriotic song.
Prof. Sridhar, Faculty and Chief Administrative Office, SDMIMD, unfurled the national flag. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sridhar said ‘it’s our duty to respect our parents & teachers, who made us responsible citizens. We got to be very fortunate to have been born in this great country. India is a vast and diversified country with Multi Religions, Languages, Cultures, faith and beliefs. Yet we have proved to the entire world that we are a cohesive force and live in harmony and peace by respecting each other’s beliefs and sentiments and have collectively made India a very strong country in the Global arena. Today India is respected everywhere, and India is a strong force to be reckoned with. Indian’s are respected and welcomed in other developed and developing countries. We are all respected for our rich tradition, culture, hard work and commitment, which are based on our rich value systems and rich ethical standards laid by our Great forefathers since ancient times’.
Further, Prof. Sridhar said only when we become disciplined and committed, the society will be benefitted and finally the country at large will also be benefitted. All good initiatives must originate at our levels only and we must practice what we preach.
The impressions shared by SDMites about the country and role of Young Indians, showed great patriotism. Faculty, Staff and Students joined the national celebration.
This was followed by community breakfast at the Institute Mess.

The Student and Faculty Exchange Program in the field of Management Education is a much sought after academic activity among Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) students, researchers and faculty.
SDMIMD, which became a partnering institute with British University in Dubai (BUiD), Dubai, has extended 'Study Abroad Program' to the One-Year Full-time Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM).
4 students, Ms. Navya Seetharam, Ms. Devyanee Rani, Ms. Shruthi K Raj and Ms. Jahnavi M.S. - were selected for the Week-long Study Abroad Program (SAP) scheduled between 3rd and 7th February 2019.
Students selected for the program will be exposed to the business education in all fields including Operations, HR and Finance, covered in the lecture integrating the theoretical part with the practical. The students will also be involved in the project work.
Dr. Amer Alaya, Head of Student Administration, The British University in Dubai (BUiD), UAE, will be guiding the students with the Project.

The student wing of SDMIMD has several Social Responsibility initiatives extending a helping hand continuously to the NGOs, Government Departments, and Social Service Organizations. The students 'Social Relevant Projects' provide a suitable solution to the existing problems in these organizations.
As in the previous years’ SDMites as a part of the social responsibility initiative extended financial contribution to the NGO's in Mysore on January 3, 2019. Organizations - Sneha Kirana Spastic Society; Purna Chetana Public School; Divya Deepa Charitable Trust’s Kaliyuva Mane; Arivu Vidya Samsthe, Nireekshe School for Special Children, Pratham, Shakthidama, Pinjarapole and Asha Kirana Hospital, were identified for the current year for this initiative.
Sri C.V. Sridhar, the Administrative Officer, joined the students during this support activity.

Toastmasters' Club of SDMIMD organized a motivational talk for PGDM 2018-20 Batch on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Mr. Pranab Singh – Entrepreneur, Motivational Speaker and Business Mentor was the invited speaker for the talk.
The talk started with the journey of the speaker as an entrepreneur, his experiences, the failures and opportunities to prosper. Mr. Singh emphasized that good is never great, and opined that continuous development is essential for the growth of both the enterprise and the entrepreneur. He also highlighted the value of communication in today’s dynamic business scenario.
Mr. Singh reiterated the importance of mind over matter and stated that it is essential to put our minds in things that matter to be successful in both personal and professional front. Elucidating the difference between vision and sight, he shared anecdotes demonstrating the importance of leadership qualities in an entrepreneur. Mr. Singh concluded his talk stating the importance of devotion and commitment in every endeavour of life. The talk concluded with an interesting interactive question and answer session.

On 19th January 2019, SDMites organized Technical Session by Prerana – SDMIMD Alumni Association, for the first year PGDM students. SDMIMD Alumnus Mr. Niranjan Naik, National Sales Head, Bosch, and Secretary, Prerana, delivered talk on ‘Strategic Management’ and Mr. Abhijith M.K., VP, Reliceli Bangalore, delivered the session on ‘Sales and Marketing as a career - with relevance to Industry 4.0’.
Mr. Niranjan Naik, in his speech gave a brief about Bosch’s energy and building solutions. Mr. Naik emphasised on the market oriented strategic planning which is a significant managerial process of developing and maintaining a viable fit between an organisational objective or skills, resources, and its changing market opportunities. He also focused on the strategic planning action areas which includes managing companies or businesses as an investment portfolio; assessing each business activity by considering market’s growth rate and company’s position and fit in that market; developing a strategy (game plan) to achieve long run objectives. He also highlighted that four levels in a strategic planning viz. the corporate level, division level, business level and product service level. He then elucidated the difference between a strategic plan and a business plan in terms of their respective objectives, tenure and focal points. Further, he enunciated the different components of a strategic plan and a business plan.
Mr. Abhijith M K in his speech, shared his experiences in the field of sales and marketing, He narrated the challenges he had faced at the threshold of his career in the field of sales. Mr. Abhijith stated that, the students should be ready to face challenges and mange it well when they take up a career in the field of sales and marketing. He opined that, different industries and markets follow the same concepts but adopt different methodologies. He also requested students to have a firm conviction and never give up during turbulent times. He further added that, in order to be successful in this career, it is essential to do things differently and tap every opportunity that comes by. Mr. Abhijith concluded his speech by enlightening the students about the business with relevance to the industry 4.0
The session was concluded with a question and answer forum wherein the students took an active part.

SDMIMD organized the 11th edition of Annual Leadership Talk (ALT) on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. The event is known as a platform for eminent leaders to share their success stories, this year the talk will be delivered by Mr. Krishnakumar Natarajan, Executive Chairman, Mindtree, delivered the talk on the topic 'Future of Work-Creating Possibilities - Using Workplace Digitization'.
In his speech, Mr. Krishna Kumar Natarajan opined that big data and artificial intelligence will fundamentally change the way our body and mind work. He emphasized on the three pillars of organizing digital workplace, which included engaging employees, making physical workplace effective and considering health, safety and wellness for a better workplace. He also highlighted that beyond these three pillars, an organization needs to see how to manage the diverse workforce.
Mr. Krishna Kumar Natarajan also emphasized on BOTs and its relevance in the era of digitization. He also expressed his views on creating a personalised experience for customers as a crucial factor for the success of the business. He stated that before a company goes for digitization, certain important factors need to be analysed, significant among them being deploying of artificial intelligence reviewer, architect BOT and which are the requirements that can be automated. The session was concluded with an interesting question and answer forum.
Earlier Prof. Rajendra Todalbagi, Associate Professor – Operations, welcomed the gathering and gave a brief note on the significance and value addition created by the Annual Leadership Talks held year after year for both the academicians as well as the student community.

On January 7, 2019, SDMIMD organized an International Symposium for the faculty and students from the Mays Business School, Texas A&M University. The symposium inaugural talk was delivered by Dr. Julian Gaspar, Clinical Professor and the Head of the Centre for International Business Studies at the Texas A & M University as the distinguished Chief Guest. In his opening remarks, Dr. Julian Gaspar expressed his views on the changing face of international business which is an aftermath of Brexit and the political risks which potentially every nation has been facing.
The program commenced with Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, Associate Professor, SDMIMD, Mysuru, providing an overview of the program. Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director SDMIMD, Mysuru delivered the welcome address and spoke about the changes around the world which are impacting international business.
The second session saw the knowledge of students from Mays Business School being put to test with a business quiz. This was followed by a series of games aimed at team building. In the afternoon session, Kalanubhav, the cultural wing of SDMIMD, showcased the best of Indian culture to the visiting team. The students of Texas University also used this platform to exhibit their talent. The program concluded with a ceremony to felicitate the visitors.
