Second International Conference on Leadership: Sustainable and Inclusive Progress in Creating Organizational Excellence

On September 13, 2024, the Second International Conference on Leadership was held at the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore, focusing on leadership’s role in fostering sustainable and inclusive progress to achieve organizational excellence. The event, chaired by Dr. Mamta Hegde, brought together industry leaders, academics, and practitioners to discuss leadership strategies in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape.
 
Address by Dr. S N. Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, emphasized the critical role of leadership in building sustainable organizations that adapt to global changes. His address set the tone for discussions on how leaders can drive positive organizational change and foster environments conducive to growth and innovation.
 
Mr. Sampatkumar Aratti, Vice President & Head of HR for APAC and Chief People Officer at Lapp Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, Singapore, delivered the keynote address. Mr. Aratti shared his insights on how leadership must evolve to meet the challenges posed by a volatile and uncertain world, emphasizing decentralization, adaptability, and inclusive growth.
 
Following the keynote, several paper presentations took place throughout the day, featuring research and case studies from academics and industry experts. These presentations delved into various facets of leadership, including decentralized leadership, talent management, and fostering a culture of innovation. They aimed to provide actionable insights to improve leadership practices in diverse organizational settings.
 
The conference concluded with a valedictory address by Ms. Savitha Mallappa, Director and Co-Founder of rProcess Outsourcing Services Pvt. Ltd., Mysore. Ms. Mallappa spoke on the significance of nurturing leadership at all levels to promote sustainable organizational progress and the importance of continuous learning in leadership roles. Following her address, participants were awarded certificates, marking the close of a highly engaging and impactful event.
 
The conference provided an invaluable platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and dialogue on sustainable and inclusive leadership practices, reaffirming SDMIMD’s commitment to excellence in management education.

OBT For Workplace Learning and Development Students

The Outbound Training (OBT) program for the Workplace Learning and Development (WLD) students held at LEAD College of Management in Palakkad, Kerala, from September 3rd to 5th, 2024, was a transformative experience for the participants. The program offered a mix of individual outdoor activities like trekking, 90-degree walking, ziplining, fire walking, and wall climbing, alongside team-based activities such as "The Mission Impossible," "Tyre Wall," “passing the rope”, “balancing on bricks”, “Team plank walking” and "Water Crossing. Team activities emphasized the importance of collective success, with participants learning the value of diverse perspectives and the power of aligning around a shared vision to overcome challenges. Meanwhile, individual challenges encouraged participants to confront their fears, develop mental resilience, and take the first step in overcoming obstacles. Together, these experiences equipped participants to navigate future challenges with greater confidence.
 
The program also fostered personal growth and leadership skills, laying a strong foundation for students' academic and professional journeys. The entrepreneurial spirit and hospitality of the students were evident throughout the program. A particularly memorable moment was when the Dr. Thomas, Chairman, LEAD shared an analogy about how pots are molded through pain and hard work, leaving a lasting impression on the participants. The outbound faculty trainer, Prof. Sijin, kept energy levels high, pushing students to complete tasks and overcome their fears. Overall, the OBT program profoundly impacted the participants, fostering personal and collective growth. The faculty in charge of the OBT is Dr. L. Gandhi, Associate Professor- OB&HRM, SDMIMD. 

SDMIMD Hosts Advanced Management Development Programme for Wuerth Elektronik Executives on Embracing Technology and Project Management

On September 2, 2024, SDMIMD, Mysore, conducted the Advanced Management Development Programme (MDP) for mid-senior-level executives of Wuerth Elektronik. Dr. S.N. Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, inaugurated the program, highlighting the importance of embracing technology and leveraging tools and techniques for effective task planning and execution in project management.
 
SDMIMD's faculty resource persons, including Dr. Prasad SN, Prof. Girish Gopalarao, and Dr. Mohamed Minhaj, led a series of sessions focusing on the practical application of tools and techniques for workplace task planning and execution. Key topics included project management, the creation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR), integration of technology for enhanced performance, and executing KPIs, objectives, and tasks. The concluding workshop for this Advanced MDP is scheduled for October 21, 2024. The program was coordinated by Dr. Nanda Kishore Shetty, Chairperson of Corporate and External Training Programs at SDMIMD, Mysore.

Research Development Program on “Effective Research Paper Writing and Journal Publication”

SDMIMD organised one-day Research Development Program on “Effective Research Paper Writing and Journal Publication” on August 30, 2024. The key focus of the program was to disseminate the fundamental ideas of a journal’s expectations from a research paper and build the capacity of the participants to write a good-quality manuscript. The day-long program covered pertinent topics such as strategic aspects of conceptualising impactful research, best practices of structuring and preparing a research paper, research ethics and journal selection. The event was attended by 49 participants who are Faculty and research scholars affiliating to reputed organisations of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andra Pradesh. 
 
The program was designed and delivered by Dr. Venkatraja B, Chairperson-SDM Research Centre for Management Studies. 
 
Dr.S.N.Prasad, Director - SDMIMD Mysore delivered inaugural talk to the program. Participation certificates were distributed to the participants by the Director and the Resource Person.

International Family Business Enterprises Conference (IFBEC) 2024

The International Family Business Enterprises Conference (IFBEC) 2024, co-organized by SDMIMD along with the Foundation for Research, Education, and Development (FRED); Witten Institute for Family Business (WIFU), and Konan University, concluded successfully with three days of vibrant discussions, paper presentations, and collaborative engagements. Held from August 29 to 31, 2024, the conference was a unique platform for business leaders, scholars, and researchers to share innovative ideas and explore emerging trends in family business enterprises.
 
An inspiring inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Prasad S.N., Director, SDMIMD, along with esteemed guests from the partner institutions. The inauguration set the stage for groundbreaking conversations aimed at shaping the future of family businesses on a global scale. Business professionals from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Germany, and Japan participated in the discussions, fostering impactful connections and knowledge-sharing.
 
The final day of the conference, August 31, 2024, was hosted at SDMIMD's campus, where scholars from around the world presented their research on family business enterprises. This session, which included both in-person and virtual presentations from researchers in the USA, Germany, Russia, UK, and China, showcased cutting-edge insights in the field of family business research. The event facilitated a rich exchange of ideas, contributing to the advancement of academic and practical knowledge in the sector.
 
These interactions allowed for an exchange of best practices and innovative strategies to enhance the sustainability and success of family businesses globally.

SDMIMD Celebrates 78th Independence Day

SDMIMD celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm on August 15, 2024. The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the tricolor by Dr. Mamta Hegde, Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management, who also addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech. The event was graced by the presence of the Honorable Director, Dr. S.N. Prasad, along with faculty, staff members, and students, all of whom gathered to honor the occasion.
 
The celebration continued with a series of cultural programs organized by Team Kalanubhav and Team Samprathi, featuring captivating dance performances and patriotic songs that added a vibrant spirit to the event. The celebration concluded with a community breakfast, fostering a sense of unity and pride among all participants.

Leadership Development Programme for Sundaram Home Finance Ltd., Senior Executives

Twenty senior management executives from Sundaram Home Finance participated in a weeklong Management Development Program (MDP) on Leadership Development: Aspire and Strategize for Higher Achievement (ASHA) at SDMIMD, Mysore, from August 12th to 17th, 2024. The program was inaugurated by Dr. S.N. Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, and Ms. Mini Sympson, Head of HR for Emerging Business and Talent Acquisition at Sundaram Home Finance.
 
Following the inaugural session, Mr. Lakshminarayanan Duraiswamy, Managing Director of Sundaram Home Finance, addressed the participants and actively engaged in the sessions conducted on Day 1. Over the course of five days, faculty members from SDMIMD, including Dr. Prasad SN, Dr. Kannadas S, Dr. M. Sriram, Dr. Vasumathi Hariharan, Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, Dr. L. Gandhi, Dr. Srilakshminarayana, and Dr. K. Riyaz Ahmed, delivered sessions on finance, people management, leadership, communication, and data-driven decision-making.
 
The program concluded on August 17th with a valedictory function that included participant feedback, certificate distribution, and an address by Mr. Ganapathi Subramanian, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of Sundaram Home Finance. The participants, along with Ms. Sriranga, Program Coordinator from Sundaram Home’s HR department, expressed high appreciation for the program. The MDP was coordinated under the supervision of Dr. Nanda Kishore Shetty, Chairperson of Corporate and External Training Programs at SDMIMD, Mysore.

Australian guests at SDMIMD

Dr. Jeremy Novak, Vice Chancellor of Global Development College (GDC),  Australia and Brig. Gen. (Rtd.) Eric Tan, Board Member,  Global Development College,  Australia made a visit to SDMIMD on 14 August 2024. From SDMIMD, Dr. S. N. Prasad, Director, Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Dean - International Relations, and Dr. Anand Sasikumar, Asst. Professor, were present in the meeting. Several possibilities of academic collaborations between SDMIMD and GDC  have been explored and discussed.

Overview of IT Product Industry & Product Life Cycle by Mr. Prasanna Kumar N

On August 12th, SDMIMD hosted a guest lecture by Mr. Prasanna Kumar N., who provided an overview of the IT Product Industry and Product Life Cycle. He discussed challenges in the introduction phase and the importance of innovation for market acceptance. In the growth phase, he emphasized scaling operations and enhancing features. For the maturity phase, he highlighted strategies to optimize processes and sustain market share. The lecture concluded with a discussion on rejuvenating or phasing out products in the decline phase. He also stressed the need for agile development in response to rapid technological advancements.

FDP on Analysing the Research Landscape

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Analysing the Research Landscape: Bibliometric Techniques for Engineering and Management Applications” was held on August 3, 2024, at SDMIMD. This comprehensive training was aimed at equipping faculty members and researchers from engineering and management disciplines with bibliometric techniques to enhance their research productivity, impact, and evaluation. Participants learned about various reference management tools, data sources, and bibliometric software like VOSviewer and BiblioShiny. The resource persons, Dr Sunil MV and Dr. Anand Sasikumar conducted engaging sessions on the practical applications of these tools in academic research.
